Unclear if ICE will proceed, but search for beds comes amid talks of wider crackdown in New York.

This is far worse than anyone expected.

Trump's HUD plan would cut *two-thirds* of permanent housing and push as many as 170,000 formerly homeless people back onto the street—redirecting funds to work mandates, forced treatment, and encampment sweeps.

All as mass internment camps are being built.

It really does seem like there's a decent chance that these senators screwed us because they don't want their personal Thanksgiving plans to be disrupted.
Anyway a great way to radicalize people is for them to realize that you just abandoned their chance at being able to access and afford health care because you didn’t like waiting in line at the airport.

the full scope of people disappeared is likely much larger but is obscured by heavy criminalization, social stigma, and fewer eyes and phones around to bear witness.

Yet another reminder that antisemitic white supremacist conspiracism is now incredibly mainstream on the right in the US (a fact obscured by commentators' scaremongering re left antizionism)

DOJ is doing the legal equivalent of a throwing a massive tantrum—saying that a judge imposing a strict reporting routine for Border Patrol when it flagrantly violated past court orders about how it's carrying out its occupation of Chicago is a constitutional crisis. And it'll probably work.
BREAKING: DOJ has gone to the Seventh Circuit, seeking a writ of mandamus ordering Judge Ellis to vacate her order that Border Patrol's Gregory Bovino report to court daily. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

These are prisons.

The criminalization of homelessness and push towards mandated, coerced medical interventions and civil commitment—a bipartisan project—was always going to lead us here.

This is why when we talk about, strategize and organize around abolition, we must include ALL carceral spaces.
Under Trump, the draconian future of homelessness policy is coming into focus: mass internment. Utah is building a 16-acre site to detain up to 1,300 homeless people inside locked "accountability centers." This is profoundly alarming.

This judge—with nominal authority to order Bovino, a cop in charge of goons willfully violating a court order—is reading stuff aloud to him to keep up the pretense he didn't ignore a court order, & bargaining to coax compliance.

That's an expression of her powerlessness, not a dunk or a gotcha.
Ellis asks Bovino if he has a body-worn camera.

Bovino: "I do not ma'am, no. I've not yet received a body-worn camera or the training."

Ellis: "How about by Friday, you get a camera?"

Some folks want to write fanfic for a federal judge instead of grappling with reality.

I get why that’s more comforting, but “She’s getting ready to spring her trap next time” is an inadequate response to bright lines being crossed and neighborhoods being tear-gassed. I hope most of us see that.
