I think many are not fully reckoning with the fact that the US government is repeatedly flexing an unlimited authority to murder political opponents (in the streets, at sea, in ICE cages, in foreign countries) at will, then make up whatever facially obviously fake explanation they want.

Just as they are claiming in Minneapolis, ICE said in their previous fatal shooting that the person they killed tried to run them over. Video showed that was simply not true. Media has a responsibility to provide this context when sharing DHS statements.

A major theme of their strategy with ramping up ICE's violence has been turning the US Code upside down to find (or invent) legal landmines to use against people. And they don't even have to stretch to do that here: it's provided for right there in the law.

Absolutely. His asides during the press conference about "taking care of Venezuelans in the US who had to leave" (paraphrasing) were a massive euphemistic threat to Venezuelans seeking asylum here. I'm also worried they will try to "terminate" asylum status for people they've already granted it to.
