Tom's mistake is that he thinks fully-consolidated authoritarianism *is* fascism. And there's two issues here:
1) While all fascisms are authortiarianisms, not all authoritarianisms are not fascisms.

Hence it's a good analogy! The organized US feminist movement began in 1848. It called for many things (most of all the franchise) that didn't happen for a long time. Much that feminists want to see still has not come to pass. "Immediate" demands don't preclude recognizing a likely long struggle.

It was Nagano Olympic mania! I have fond memories of chowing down a bowl of this stuff, then sitting down to get incredibly frustrated and annoyed with this game, and feeling like I wasted a weekend rental!

The Epstein story gets a something that is tearing at the heart of the electorate: elite impunity. The idea that wealthy and powerful people can do terrible things *at scale* and face no consequences for them. Whatever political party actually stops it could rule the country for a generation.
