Tom's mistake is that he thinks fully-consolidated authoritarianism *is* fascism. And there's two issues here:

1) While all fascisms are authortiarianisms, not all authoritarianisms are not fascisms.

2) We need not wait to call a state authoritarian/fascist until full consolidation is achieved /11

I had not realized this but wow yeah that's what it is
I am honestly delighted that the Pope loved THE BLUES BROTHERS

maybe *the* great American Bollywood movie
What's from Chicago, hates Illinois Nazis, and is holy as fuck?

It's the Pope in 1982.

Hence it's a good analogy! The organized US feminist movement began in 1848. It called for many things (most of all the franchise) that didn't happen for a long time. Much that feminists want to see still has not come to pass. "Immediate" demands don't preclude recognizing a likely long struggle.

that they were unhinged lunatics (I’m not overstating in the slightest). The prospect of ending slavery quickly was considered madness by most. Then it happened quickly in a lot of places. Prisons may be with us always, but hoping and fighting for a world where they are not is a worthy project.

Listen to this Border Patrol agent cry about how he's going to be DOXXED after being arrested for drunkenly barging into a woman's restroom with a loaded gun, demanding a date from the woman inside, and then punching the arresting officers.

I've said this before but I basically think all US assets contain more or less unlimited and unknowable political risk and that obviously includes the dollar if these MFERS have their way
as I said before, everyone keeps dancing around the fact that this is open nativist blood libel. This is how you legitimize mass dispossession, en masse, of an entire sub-population of a nation. And this is now an institutionalized belief in ostensibly the most powerful org in international finance.
Fed Governor Stephen Miran: "Cutting down net migration to 0, potentially even negative because of the deportations that have been occurring, I think is very deflationary."

My most woke opinon is that hot dog water could be eliminated if you used very hot sand to cook the dogs.
my most woke opinion is that about 70% of the QTs of this are actually reactionary
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

"narco-terrorist" as a phrase is so phenomenal. combining the two biggest, decades-long foreign policy failures since the end of the cold war. i'm sure it'll work.

Note the class dynamics on display in both this and the Epstein story--these were wealthy men preying on girls made all the more vulnerable by their poverty

Policing in China isn't strict - is an absolutely wild take.

Lol public servant guarding heritage site. God these people long for the boot.
There's a difference between being critical of the police and American orientalism of Chinese officials. Saying random shit about China to justify a ignorant position, that policing in China is strict and this response isn't normal behavior of a public servant guarding a heritage site is orientalism

It really is funny how common "military action in the near abroad to distract from domestic troubles at home" is in the authoritarian playbook

It has a success rate of like 5% and a backfire rate probably north of 50
so at what point does the president greenlight Venezuela strikes to take energy away from the new epstein drops?
November 13, 2025 at 12:57 AM
This is why actually govt shutdown is a non violent way to force the issue. Kicking the can will make it worse in the end
The Epstein story gets a something that is tearing at the heart of the electorate: elite impunity. The idea that wealthy and powerful people can do terrible things *at scale* and face no consequences for them. Whatever political party actually stops it could rule the country for a generation.
