The cheapest way to deliver healthcare is to provide universal healthcare. This has been demonstrated nearly infinite times; Roger Marshall just isn’t smart. The US spends more on healthcare than any other country in the entire world BECAUSE of privatization (and we have the worst health outcomes!)
Roger Marshall: "We want patients to become consumers again. We want patients to see what the actual prices are. We believe that if we would add the price tags to this bill, that it would save the country a trillion dollars a year."

Study after study shows campaign ads barely move the needle. So where does money’s real power come from? I ranked the five ways money corrupts politics—from least to most corrosive. What I’ve learned from 15 years of tracking political money:
Money Doesn't Buy Elections. It Does Something Worse.
Campaign ads barely move the needle. The real influence is hiding in plain sight.

During the early days of the COVID pandemic, each was criticized for their views on the pandemic, for underestimating its impact, for views on vaccine side-effects. The criticisms were scientific--these men and women got things wrong again and again. 2/

Hellraiser top moment: when the guy at dinner flips the cigarette inside his mouth then back out with it still lit and grins and Kirstie looks like she just saw the sexiest thing 😍 ever conceived of by a man (correct)

Makes up for all the scary stuff in that movie that I have to fast forward thru.

The Big Ugly Bill passing today is devastating. But we didn’t get here on accident. One big part of the problem is staring us in the face: corporate media. The press was meant to be a watchdog—the Fourth Estate. Instead, it’s become a concierge service for fascism

I am grieving the barbarism that is going to unfurl from all this. People are going to die. Livelihoods gone. All to feed a corrupt kleptocracy.

I see every day up close how different it is from the first time around. There are no guardrails. A disaster. I’m sorry we have to live through this.

right-wingers will often say that America deserves credit for ending slavery rather than blame for having slavery. but then we made a holiday to commemorate the end of slavery and they still got mad, which should tell you what their real objection is.
when you’re so racist you don’t let your workers have a day off for a holiday recognizing the end of slavery

Your individual choices literally can’t compete and trying to convince you that ecological damage is a personal choice problem has been a super neat capitalist trick

Rand Paul: "Tariffs are taxes & when you put tax on a business it's always passed through as a cost, so there will be higher prices. There's an economic fallacy that trade deficits mean anything. They're artificial accounting. The only trade that means anything is the individual who buys something"

The big reveal is that this - what you’re seeing right now - is in fact *exactly* how businesses are run; chaotically and at the whims of sociopaths who think they know everything, actually know nothing, and run away with a golden parachute to leave others to clean up their mess.
People constantly claim that the appeal of Republicans is that they are ‘successful’ businesspeople who will “run the country like a business”, but in reality they’re so incompetent at even the most basic tasks that they can’t even prepare a legally-mandated budget request on time.
MURRAY: It was due last week. By law.

PATEL: I understand.

MURRAY: You're not gonna follow the law? ... And you have no timeline?

PATEL: No

MURRAY: Hmm. We're not having a budget hearing without a budget request. So where is it?

Not a single pundit from either political party said “how are we going to pay for it?!”

Don’t dare tell us we cannot ALL have healthcare, housing, and education.

It's a high bar, but this from @radleybalko.bsky.social might be one of the most fucked up things I've read in the new Trump era. For context, this TX lawyer had just had an informal conversation with a family caught up in ICE raids.

Seriously. Read this. radleybalko.substack.com/p/the-courag...
