#SCOTUS denies a stay of execution to Alabama death-row prisoner Anthony Boyd, over *quite* a dissent from the three Democratic appointees, written by Justice Sotomayor, about the problems with nitrogen hypoxia as a method of execution:

The Georgia Museum of Art has monthly free kids days with a different scavenger hunt every month AND multiple really fun art projects each time. It's a game changer even for our kids who generally love art
I've long thought some enterprising art historian or intellectual historian or anyone really could design downloadable -- and printable! -- scavenger hunts for many museums for different ages and interests.
This is such a clever idea on taking kids to museums/galleries

Washington Supreme Court Justice Mungia has an extraordinary opinion condemning "the underlying racism and prejudices that are woven into the very fabric" of SCOTUS opinions about Native people.

"We must clearly, loudly, and unequivocally state that was wrong.”

As is always correct and in accordance with all the laws of the internet, I just watched Tom Holland's epic Lip Sync Battle performance, and now I am sharing it with all of you so you can do the same.

Am I in cinema and media studies? No. Will I apply just for Holbox? I may have to.
We're hiring. It's a real needle-in-a-haystack search for an experienced teacher who can help reimagine our flagship (i.e., huge) intro course for a new era. 3/3 load. Convenient to Hollywood and Holbox.

it’s fun that the “facts don’t care about your feelings” people make every single decision entirely based on how they feel

For our first grader, our choices are A) car line or B) a 6:50 am bus stop a half-mile from our house on an unlit street with hills, blind spots, and no sidewalks. I want no part of this ⬇️ but don't feel we have a real choice; I'm not having him walk over the river and through the woods in the dark

It's proposal-writing season so, uh, does @ilanahorn.bsky.social want to bluesky-ify her old Twitter thread about cutting to meet word count? Asking for a friend who's at 2600 words.

The left better start figuring out how to weaponize today's decision rather than just (rightfully) criticizing it.

- Go back into Judge Kaczmaryk's court to dissolve all of his nationwide orders.

- Pass gun bans and insist any order applies only to plaintiffs.

lol Barrett saying this about a black woman and acting like the 14th amendment doesn't exist is just absolutely insane racism
Woah. Fierce cut-down of the junior justice by the next-most-junior justice.

There's something really interesting going on here methodologically in Justice Jackson's Medina v. Planned Parenthood dissent. You can see it in one footnote.

In short, Jackson is emphasizing that Black Americans are part of the original "public" about which "originalists" should be concerned.

I’m ruminating on the rewarding of women for looking like they put in effort to conform to patriarchy because we also have hella eugenics about which rewards looking perfect naturally. I assume that tension comes down to punishing women no matter what they do.
This is hands down the best, most enjoyable, and far-ranging discussion that I have had in recent memory. Katie brought so much to this interview about vibecessions, “finance guy” memes as politics of social reproduction in casino capitalism, Bama Rush and DSA.

honestly does seem like the basic dynamic in american politics right now is that a critical number of voters treat Democrats like their (nagging) mom or their (bitch) wife and treat Republicans like the “cool” dad or husband who is at best a deadbeat

Chase Strangio talked on Strict Scrutiny about how after Bowers, we didn’t throw up our hands and call it a day. We got to work and Lawrence was 17 years later. This ruling will cause suffering and death. And still, it’s time to get to work.
🚨By a 6–3 vote, the Supreme Court UPHOLDS Tennessee's ban on gender-affirming care for minors, concluding that it does NOT discriminate on the basis of sex, is not subject to heightened scrutiny, and survives rational basis review. All three liberals dissent. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

At our wedding, my astronomer husband and I had a planetarium show (YES NERDS WE KNOW). The MC told everyone to get drunk first. During the show my drunk aunt-in-law shouted "SHOW US URANUS" and he had a whole BIT about how Uranus got rammed by something hard and let out a lot of gas. 😂
