It was a beautiful experience as a teacher. When we got home, that student wrote me a thank you card. He wrote, "Now my job is to study, pass all my classes, and grow up and become a Supreme Court judge and I'll say this is Ms. Cooper's fault." That card is still proudly displayed in my office.

A very heartwarming teacher story: in March 2011, I took a group of my 8th grade students from Oakland to D.C. on a field trip. I took one student off program on the 29th; he and I woke up early, took the Metro, and waited in the 2-minute line to hear oral arguments in Wal-Mart v. Dukes.
