I think it’s also true that loneliness among women has historically been treated as an individual problem, while loneliness among men is treated as a societal problem. That, in turn, comes from an assumption that women are supposed to earn the company of others while men are entitled to it.

I’ll say on this last note: if you ever experience something traumatic, play Tetris. I know it sounds absurd but Tetris curtails intrusive thoughts and PTSD flashbacks. But you gotta do it as soon as possible.

Back before my transition when my conservative Christian parents were still trying to groom me into being a "man", a huge point of conflict between us was that I wasn't controlling my partner enough. That I was failing to fulfill my role by not controlling my partner's behavior.
I sort of wish y'all took this more seriously, because this attitude is a reinforcement of heterosexuality as a hierarchy. It's an acknowledgement and understanding that it's not enough to "be with" a woman, or even to father children.
