Buried inside the deal to reopen government is a provision that would give Senators private right of action to sue for millions in damages over their phone records being analyzed by Jack Smith's team.

It’s estimated that 23% of drivers never have an accident. Maybe they shouldn’t have to have car insurance.

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

One thing I share in common with our 6 adult sons is that every one of them spends time on music, listening with full attention to new releases, and finding with amazement new songs/pieces that say what their souls needed to finally say but that never could have been said fully without music.

A one year-old was pepper sprayed in a car with her parents by an armed, masked federal agent, and Dick Durbin is more concerned with "how the Senate works"
And the truly craziest thing abt this cave is that someone seeing the invasion of Chicago firsthand, Dick Durbin, doesn't understand this.
seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous

I think a lot of the anger this morning stems from a feeling that we did our part, but they did not do theirs. This is an oversimplification, but my dudes, no wonder people are like, “OK, let’s try the democratic socialist, then.”

as always SNATCHING DEFEAT FROM THE JAWS OF VICTORY.
i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

Yes.
Let me get this right… a sufficient number Senate Democrats appear to be willing to reopen government to alleviate air travel for upper & upper-middle income people at the expense of access to healthcare for lower income people. Yes?

If this thing goes through, the Dems are willingly shouldering the blame for the shutdown and all the pain it has caused.

Hi Minnesotan Bluesky:

The DFL has a well-known transphobia problem. I'm organizing to change the party platform in 2026 to be explicitly supportive of trans people in Minnesota. This will provide a basis for expelling transphobia from our party.

I use old cardboard shipping boxes and bubble wrap envelopes to make insulated shelters for ours, under the porch like you do. I also use some heavy “felt” rug pad for the bottom on the inside. + A hole in the side just big enough for them to enter & leave.
