The issue remains that Obamacare WAS the Republican plan. The whole Obama idea was that if you crossed the aisle and used their plan, they'd be on your side. It turns out that the entire Obama Doctrine was flat wrong. But since they can't use their own plan, there just isn't another one

Pretty incredible own goal by liberal institutions and many Democratic electeds to crush the exact type of protests in 2024 that would’ve been the most effective way to slow or stop ICE incursions into American cities in 2025

Toxic barrels off LA coast too dangerous to clean up, scientists say.

While investigating whether the barrels contained DDT, a pesticide that makes seafood unsafe to eat, scientists found they’re leaking something else entirely.

On June 24, I began my Election Night speech by quoting Mandela: “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” That's the spirit of this campaign, and our city.

This is "Until It’s Done,” a new series about New Yorkers who refused to accept that a worthy goal was impossible.

to my mind the woman who dies of sepsis because of antiabortion laws, or the person who dies because they can't afford insulin -- these are just as much victims of political violence as the man shot through the throat while making a racist speech

This episode made me feel insane for several reasons but most notably am I the only person who remembers the beef tallow/McDonalds fries episode of Malcolm Gladwell's podcast from like 2017???
This episode is 13% debunking and 87% dramatic readings of banger tweets from the worst people in the world

we all can and should demand more and better than a class of politicians who helped steer the united states into its current horrifying state. the trump phenomenon did not emerge from a vacuum. kamala and mayor pete were part of the failed admin that delivered us from trump back to trump!

I waste a lot of time browsing Zillow and don't understand the American preference for larger generic home (3k - 10k sq feet) instead of smaller home with beautiful architecture (1.5 - 3k sq feet)

It’s almost like the particularly brutal nature of capitalism here has forced people to choose between poverty and brutality.
I wonder if there’s another way to set things up, one where you don’t have to brutalize people to have a place to live?
A remarkable moment from an interview with Brad Lander on the Jewish Currents podcast: two ICE officers who arrested him are immigrant New Yorkers, one of whom was considering voting for him and Mamdani

There’s straight up no one as genuinely well liked as this guy in American politics despite, or really, because of, his “radical” approach — and everyone else in American politics is demanding you see him as Dangerous, and maybe you can see how the first part explains the second
Shooting our videos is a little bit different now.

The pro-Mamdani anti-Mamdani split is another one of those that’s not really left vs center but rather more like on the level of having principles or not
the New York Times leadership literally thinks they're the most important thing in the world. they hated Biden because he preferred talking to a security guard than to them. they hate Mamdani because he's not performing the obligatory genuflections + he beat their preferred groper.

Once again, this is a massive public jobs program for fascists.

This bill was never just about tax cuts and gutting social services. It's about investing our collective resources in violence and using state power to spread fear and destroy solidarity. We need to resist this with all we've got.
I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

Lander and Mamdani can be the inaugural Senators from the new state of Four Boroughs
Voters who supported Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso in their most recent general elections = 440,734

NYC voters who ranked Zohran #1 in the *primary* = 432,305

Perfect distillation of how unrepresentative the Senate is

Thinking how significant it is to his understanding of politics that Mamdani majored in Africana Studies at Bowdoin.
Mamdani does what I've been calling constructive politics: appeals to identity as a building block of solidarity rather than a replacement for it. love to see it
Mamdani turned up at BAYO at Barclay Center yesterday and said he was going to fight to get Haiti off the travel ban and he said Haiti correctly

@bradlander.bsky.social primary challenge when?
Kirsten Gillibrand on WNYC won’t endorse Mamdani. Said she doesn’t endorse NYC mayoral races (she endorsed Adams in 2021), and is waiting to see who runs on what line. What a fucking disgrace.
