Cynic is also not as good at telling truth from falsehood because they evaluate evidence with bias toward worst outcome even when better outcomes are more probable. Relevant in these times.

Cynicism is scientifically sub optimal. The cynic doesn’t see opportunities when they arise.Don’t perceive when there are tensions&conflicts btwn opponents to exploit. It is good to be cautious&observant but cynicism is a posture of defeat. It is giving up in fancy dress. I’m sad but never cynical.
Preemptive surrender masquerading as cynical weariness is absolutely virulent rn, and we could probably be doing a better job on the whole of calling it out.

If "the rule of law is dead" no resistance matters beyond performance art, and that's just not a thing we have the luxury of conceding.

I am grateful for the fighting you are doing.
And I also want you, & every other trans person in the US today to know, that Canada accepts persecution re: gender/identity as grounds for legal asylum.

This is a very good piece and well worth reading (and it’s not behind the paywall)

The mystery is not why we Irish have responded to Israel’s barbarism. It’s why others have not

Me, a public health person, just sitting over here reflecting on the fact that the US has experienced a 7% increase in infant mortality post-Dobbs.

Like, do you realize what that says about this society from an ethical perspective? That we made policy choices that caused this?

If you want to talk about health issues related to poor diet, you can’t to omit the fact that:

90% of Americans don’t eat enough fruits, vegetables, & fiber.
THAT is a far bigger factor than any single food ingredient or food type.

Why don’t people eat enough produce?
