The running theme between the Epstein story, banning trans healthcare for minors, religious homeschooling and the complaints about adult children estranging themselves is a fundamental American belief that children are property with no rights of their own
America is a culture of child abuse. Ask any survivor - we find one another, we form networks and communities.

The true scale of it would stagger and sicken you, and so it is buried, it is swept under the rug, it is denied and the survivors are silenced by whatever means are necessary.
Government of pedophiles. They're all tainted with this for the rest of their lives.

Finally finished Monster, and man, I dunno what everyone else was saying, I am way into the ambiguous ending. It doesn't matter who Johan is after the events of the story -- he could be anyone. The lack of answers is more important than closure.

I think about this, also in terms of vaccines, and really struggle with how you have a free society that doesn’t fall into this trap in one way or another. solved problems become invisible and the solutions become the source of conspiracy theories.
This seems logical but Dems solved* the whole problem of old-age health care costs in the mid-1960s and then they lost five of the next six presidential elections because by 1968 it was a solved problem and no one cared about it.

*Yes oversimplifying here and the rest of course.
i will amend my earlier tweet. whichever party solves the prices of housing *and child care* will rule america for a generation

it's actually kinda funny in a way to get to the finish line of curing cancer and having the government go eh you know what. never mind
A tiny trial in New York has shown that personalized mRNA vaccines can provoke massive, lasting immune responses against pancreatic cancer, even as sweeping federal cuts now threaten the fragile labs required to produce them.

Urbanists will talk about how cars are a machine that makes you selfish and crazy, and I know it’s easy to roll your eyes at that but if you give drivers the ability to comment they will say “yes I am selfish and crazy”

mainstream liberal parties like the democrats are partners to their conservative colleagues in maintaining a misogynist/white supremacist system, & it is always odd when you see criticism of that system misread as what it is actually criticizing. it is 'mediocre white man' to not love chuck schumer

all the fake AI trash really contradicts one of the main ways we're told capitalism operates, with capitalists identifying wants/needs & developing products & services to meet those. turns out you can skip that step & just pretend. nigh everyone hates AI and it makes no money but it's everywhere

I'm going to keep hollering that "women's safety" is a right wing talking point until people start listening to me. It's a thought terminating cliche based on treating them as belongings. They don't care about sex crimes.
But what if the "thing of their own" is a friendship with a girl in Guides who happens to be trans?

I honestly think Rowling has lost touch with how real people's lives actually work.

And, also, Rowling's movement is gearing up to get girls kicked out of Scouts, so this "answer" is horseshit.

a follower of mine said it a while ago but people like this legitimately seem to think child porn is illegal because "it's gross" or "pedophiles like it," not because it does tangible and obvious harm to children who cannot consent. You can't make things illegal off of "ew", that's the Hays Code.
Many wonder why games journalists really struggle to cover adult games censorship

I think this games journalist posting on ResetEra about Horses really gives a pretty unprecedented look into how games journalists think about these things, including the incorrect read on the censorship angle

get any anti-porn person talking and within like ten minutes they'll just start saying "no if you watch porn you're letting the Devil into your heart and then your soul is corrupted and lost forever", at best you get a few words changed like "gendered" or "misogyny" but it's always the same script

This is, of course the divide between conservative and liberal/leftist thought. The right wing is obsessed with what's in people's hearts because they think evil is inherent, something you are or aren't. On the left, we care about actions. Evil is what you DO.
Okay real talk? I kind of don’t even care about what Epstein was or wasn’t attracted to, what matters is what he fucking did and what people participated in and enabled

There’s what gets you horny and then there’s deciding that satisfying your horniness is important enough to ruin someone’s life
