An ancient and magical amber bear. Carved some 10,000 years ago, it washed up on a beach at Fanø in Denmark from a submerged Mesolithic settlement under the North Sea.

Fairy Tales of Herman Hesse: Kind of disappointing, I’m returning it to the library after reading the first 4 of ~20 stories. Not bad, but they do feel like apprentice work (& they are early in his writing career)

my new AI powered lamp is trained on millions of lamp interactions so it understands that 50% of chain pulls are to turn it on and the other 50% are to turn it off. and honestly, it's a little spooky how it knows exactly what i want almost half of the time

Heraclitus was inspired by an ancient Greek decorative theme known as ‘unswept floor’ (asàrotos òikos). He created this mosaic, seemingly covered with scraps of food from a banquet, for the dining room of a villa on the Aventine Hill in Rome. Read more: understandingrome.substack.com/p/the-unswep...

I think the ancient Romans would consider a Black Vulture sharing one’s plunge pool as a bad omen. 😳

my Edmund Fitzgerald was a Great Lakes freighter for 17 years. i walked with her load of iron ore, twenty-six thousand tons more than she weighed empty. you wouldn't survive 3 seconds in her vagina when the gales of November come early.
i miss her terribly.

if there's any MN politics knowers out there, any preferences between current declared DFL candidates, Angie Craig & Peggy Flanagan?
(latter sounds like character in a John Synge play, which is good as far as it goes but...)

Everything is plundered, betrayed, sold,
Death's great black wing scrapes the air,
Misery gnaws to the bone.
Why then do we not despair?
By day, from the surrounding woods,
cherries blow summer into town;
at night the deep transparent skies
glitter with new galaxies.
