Everyone knows the best way to do industrial strategy is by raising the costs of the inputs you need to produce the intermediate and advanced good you're hoping to manufacture
Bessent: "I think that we're at the cusp of the liftoff. In 2026 and 2027 -- President Trump was committed to bringing manufacturing jobs back to America and this is the start."

I said as much when DHS was created under Bush II. Little did I know it was foreshadowing.
This is probably the single thing that the framers of the constitution would find most horrifying about our current government order - not only is there a standing army, but we have the equivalent of one directed specifically at domestic operations
Having a domestic 'police' force with tanks and assault rifles funded in perpetuity seems like a major loophole to that eminently reasonable provision

A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.
Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."
Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

The MAGA shooting up the Mormon church feels like a taste of things to come. They really thought they could get all the various Judeo-Christian sects to put their differences aside to own the libs. In reality all they did was put a bunch of animals who compete for territory in the same room.

It’s interesting. Other than making his own reality in one day, I just don’t know about shorting anything in the best three months of the year. Like wait until the end of December? Feels like it’s fighting an uptrend.
Burry’s Palantir trade is roughly an order of magnitude bigger—and more interesting imo—than the Nvidia puts.
The guy who got famous betting against the housing market in 2007 just before that bubble burst - played by Christian Bale jn “The Big Short” - just wagered $1 billion on the collapse of the AI boom.

The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email
