The biggest Democratic win of the last 60 years was from a candidate who appealed more to progressives than moderates during the primary.

Wow does this piece suck! Another very good reminder that "realistic", "pragmatic", "adult" etc have all just become half-hearted mumbled stand-ins for "better things aren't possible"

“The problem largely stems from how tipping points are communicated to politicians – using a scientific framing that can downplay risks & allow worst case scenarios to be brushed aside.”

The way to fix this is to eliminate the draft, but that would mean owners would have to create attractive destinations & pay players fairly, or be revealed as greedy losers, so that’s never going to happen
The NBA’s latest idea to fix the lottery continues to ignore the problem — the lottery itself, @davidaldridgedc.bsky.social writes.

Teams are either all in and competing for real, or they’re not. And there’s no way to reconcile those two contradictory approaches.

It’s not the main reason why America is like this, but it sure doesn’t help

As always, Colbert did it best, simply asking a pro-Ten Commandments Republican to *name them* (he got to 3)

But journalists don’t do that because, Republicans would get mad, and Don’t Anger Republicans is the first commandment of billionaire journalism

Cheaping out on investments obviously delivers lousy returns, but also interesting that while mobility increased, car trips weren’t reduced

The Trump administration celebrated Christmas on Thursday by posting a series of religious messages from official government accounts, using language that drew criticism from those who pointed to America's separation of church and state.

Government officials have traditionally steered clear of such overtly religious language, as the Constitution prohibits the establishment of an official state religion.

A great example of how the @nytimes.com centers white Americans and Trump supporters in its anecdotal political coverage. You never see stories like this about Black Democrats whose cities are cracked in Republican gerrymandering to give them Republican elected officials.
They Wanted a Conservative State. They Might Get a Democratic Representative Instead.

The passage of Proposition 50, which redrew California’s congressional map, means that all of the state’s conservative north is likely to be represented by Democrats.

Every Democrat running for office needs to promise investigations and full prosecutions from top to bottom, remove its funding bloat then break up the agency and distribute its core remaining useful functions across other agencies.
ICE detain father shopping on Christmas Eve—then steal his family's groceries.

Then 3 agents divvy up his paid for food—taking what they want for themselves.

"Can I just get the wife's number to call and let her know?" woman asks.

"No, guess he should've complied," agent says.
