Enjoy the victory, New York. You did great. #NYC
New York is so excited, y’all. Every random bartender I talk to, they’re saying their European friends are texting them congratulating them, people are starting to hit the streets all happy. So glad I’m here right now.

The city of #Ljubljana in #Slovenia, population 280,000, kicked cars out in 2007.

Since then, car use has dropped by 32%, black carbon emissions are down 70%, noise pollution is down by 6 decibels.

Unfortunately, going car-free has made the center a living hell, as this video shows:

The evidence for more 20mph zones ⤵️

✔️ Cut deaths and serious injuries by 1/3
✔️ Protect children
✔️ Reduce crashes
✔️ Lower noise
✔️ Boost walking & cycling
Dear Britain, it’s now clear: 20mph zones save lives and don’t slow traffic. Implement them | Sadiq Khan
There is too much bluff and bluster on this subject. Ordinary people just want safe streets for themselves and those they love, and we can achieve that, says London mayor Sadiq Khan

Got to say that there's much water to flow into the sea before there's any opportunity for Corbyn's party to dent the polls. However, the impact on party discipline could be immediate and could go one way or both.

Seems bad:

"We identified more than 30,000 tire wear particles in 24 liters of stormwater runoff from roads and parking lots after two rainstorms. In heavy traffic areas, we believe the concentrations could be much higher."
One of the biggest microplastic pollution sources isn’t straws or grocery bags – it’s your tires
Rain storms wash those tire shards into streams and ultimately into lakes and oceans. That’s bad news for fish and other aquatic life.

Oh, I can see now where I might have confused you. I should have spotted that.

Gran Vía, Madrid’s iconic central avenue, has long been the cultural and commercial heart of the city. But by the mid-2000s, it had become overwhelmed by private cars, and noise and air pollution that failed to meet EU standards; reflecting the car-centric urban planning paradigm in post-war Spain.🧵

Love that the Evening Standard carried this complaint about Neil Young as genuine.

A third viewer added: “Fuming about Neil so-called Young just miming in front of a strobe light while writhing around in a pair of leather Y-fronts. This sort of pop outrage is killing live, quite dull dadrock.”

Good to see the MEN giving coverage to the dreadful rates of dangerous driving in Greater Manchester.

Stockport has the 18th highest rate in the UK – but it's less than a third of the number in Bradford.

Terrific thread on facilities for girls (and boys).
👇
This is super interesting -- and a bit depressing -- but I'd also like to see the equivalent survey done on teenage boys! Because I think sometimes there's an assumption that boys are being catered to with things like gym equipment, but actually... maybe they want spaces to hang out and chat, too?
This comes from engagement work with teenage girls in a park in York.
And you see all those things with two dots by them. Those make up 90%+ of what we currently provide for young people in public space.
Whereas the things that girls want - they just aren't there.
Let's do better.

Totally agree with Caroline on this. Well argued. Cars are getting too big and lives are being put at risk.
Cars, especially SUV’s, are getting bigger every year – clogging streets, taking up space, and more worryingly putting lives at risk.

London must use every tool in the policy toolbox to reverse this dangerous trend - and the Assembly agreed this last week.
