I mean that's a big part of *waves broadly* all this.

Sure, people have always been bigots and assholes. But normally they felt obligated to keep that stuff behind closed doors.

They were *embarrassed* to be openly bigoted, or openly dishonest.

That, I'd argue, is *a good thing.*
I would like the phrase and concept of "common decency" to make a comeback

Not a criticism of this (excellent!) thread, or Casten in particular, but I do think Democrats need to start laying out clear, definitive and escalatory steps they plan to take in response if/when SCOTUS goes through with this.
The 14th Amendment says that all people born in America, regardless of race are citizens and have a right to equal protection under the law. For SCOTUS to be remotely confused on that text speaks to their racism, not the Constitution (1/3) www.cnn.com/2025/12/05/p...

This is why DSA is good, they have the infrastructure to actually vet candidates in a way generic "progressive outsider" candidates can avoid.

every trans person i see post about the OU suspension knows that the suspended target is trans & a grad student, & has an innate awareness that this is about purging trans employees. every cis person i see thinks the target is a rando professor & that this is about giving conservatives good grades

Funny how when a person is killed in traffic, according to the Post it’s the “car” that did it but when anyone comes along to make streets safer it’s an attack on “drivers.”

part of the reason i am genuinely irritated with the gAI/AGI cult is because there is real societal benefits in using ML techniques in medical care + weather analysis, and instead people get annoyed with anything that gets lumped in with the plagiarism machine
