I have known this, but every so often I reencounter soap mummies and then they’re on my mind all day until I can talk about it.
(If you’re unaware of this, Superior is so cold and the depths so anoxic that bodies do not decompose. Everyone who’s gone down in it is still there, barring heroic recovery efforts. Many of them may have saponified and become “soap mummies,” which can effectively preserve them forever.

I am someone experiencing direct consequences from this shutdown and I want Democrats to keep up this fight.
Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

I’m doing research for a project and found out about the “don’t buy where you can’t work” movement during the depression, where Black people boycotted and picketed places that wouldn’t hire us. Shout out to everyone who’s not going back to Target!
