NYT just ran a bizarrely credulous piece about New College, the school that DeSantis and Rufo have turned upside down.

There is one good outcome of the article: This @donmoyn.bsky.social post, which is one of the best pieces of media criticism I've read all year.

Elon is still going on about this. Rep Omar represent Minneapolis, still known as one of the whitest places in America at 59% white. Moreover Omar won this seat by *32pp*. It is one of the largest margins anywhere. You can’t steal a seat that blue.

A country that had begun to make progress in believing women is regressing. In this environment, it becomes more and more difficult for victims to come forward, which means that the people committing crimes against them are going to get away with it. Again.

Which Side Is DOJ on: The Epstein Files
With apologies for writing about such a serious topic as we enter the Christmas holidays, these developments seemed too important to ignore.

The DOJ identified at least 10 co-conspirators who worked with Epstein and Maxwell. It’s obvious to anyone with two eyes that Epstein and Maxwell were engaged in organized crime, yet NO ONE ELSE involved in Epstein’s sex trafficking ring has faced criminal charges. Why?

I see this all the time in FB book groups. Someone sincerely asks for recommendations (fiction) and a third of the replies are stuff from assigned reading lists (yawn!!!).

People, we have the internet.

If the asker wanted a high school reading list, they could have just Googled.

This has been precisely my experience. I experimented a lot with ChatGPT for research-related work, summarizing, discovery, etc. The more I knew about a topic, the more errors and misleading assertions I saw in the bot’s outputs.
suspect a big reason why many academics and others who work in areas where getting facts RIGHT is key are disinterested in using LLMs for research:

they’ve tried it, they keep noticing major errors in output, and they conclude that having to verify all that doesn’t actually save them time.

This catches something really important. The risk
is less that this crew changes the regime and more that while trying to do so they cash out the whole thing. Which is one more powerful reason why resistance is patriotic.

Cis people really have no idea how it feels to watch a regime hold a press conference to admit, on camera, the pogrom against trans people they've been waging for 11 months is not only real, but they're going to double down on genocide and try to wipe out all the children first.

The ACA isn't just "health care for people who don't have a conventional employer." It also disallows something that was incredibly common 20 years ago, which I fear is getting lost to generational memory: insurance companies could deny you health care for essentially any previous health problem.
I'm dubious about Amazon's commitment to keeping pre-existing conditions a thing of the past.

Swell.

"Americans who don’t get insurance through their employer would be given cash directly into an account, which would reportedly be paired with a high-deductible health plan, meaning higher insurance premiums would be replaced by higher out-of-pocket costs."

You can tell from the way he jokes about it that the boat strike campaign is a very legal, very discriminating operation.

Performative killing for the amusement of the U.S. President.
Trump: "The problem is nobody wants to go fishing anymore. They don't want to get in boats. They don't want anything to do with boats. I think we've destroyed the boat market. Other than that it's been very effective."
