In the next cruel and possibly illegal step, the Trump administration told states that they must “immediately undo” any actions to provide full SNAP benefits. USDA threatened financial penalties on states that did not “comply” quickly with the new federal orders.

Vladeck offers an explanation of tonight’s single-justice order by Justice Jackson in the SNAP case. As the “Circuit Justice” for the First Circuit, Jackson had to write the order. She did the best she could under the circumstances.

JUST IN: Judge Karin Immergut blocked permanently National Guard deployment to Portland for ICE protests. The judge stated that the Trump administration had failed to prove that protesters against the federal immigration crackdown were hampering Trump’s policies.

Trump, who never met a dictator he didn’t like, granted Hungary’s Prime Minister Orban a one year exemption from prohibition on imports of Russian oil. The exemption significantly weakens the recent sanctions that Trump imposed on Russia.

Today Senate Democrats unveiled their first official offer to reopen the government. One of the conditions: a one-year extension of Obamacare subsidies, allowing lawmakers to set up a bipartisan committee to then negotiate future reforms.

Every argument that Justice Thomas uses against Obergefell v. Hodges applies to Loving v. Virginia of 1967 that legalized interracial marriage. Both decisions were based on the Due Process Clause and the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.

Today the Supreme Court is meeting to review a challenge to same-sex marriage. If the Court decides to take the case, it will likely overturn Obergefell.
