for fuck's sake, no, bsky is not selectively moderating against trans people, if anything, some people have done a lot of behaviour that according to the letter of the rules would result in permabans, and yet they're getting 24h strikes and being let back on because of community pressure.

The Ig Nobel is incredible , one year an Indian guy won it for calculating the average surface area of an elephant and during his acceptance they had an elephant hold up a sign with the surface area of the scientist on it, they do showbiz better than the Oscars
Video: a Japanese scientist was attacked by flies while giving the acceptance speech for his Ig Nobel Prize-winning research paper that proved painting Zebra-like stripes on cows led to a decrease in biting fly attacks.

Chatting with Gunkel's archivist Om about digitizing the rest of his materials and upgrading the ideonomy site. There are so many good essays that deserve to see the light of day (and Patrick always wanted it to become a science, not just one person's ideosyncracy)

Jedi on the Enterprise would get so confused by all the technology. They’d try to Force open a door, but it’s just a sliding one. Worf’s standing there like, "...there's a sensor."

A friend pointed out a couple weeks ago that Bill Clinton, George W Bush, and Trump were all born in 1946 and I keep thinking about how it feels like our political imaginations are being held hostage, with occasional outliers, by a very particular generational precept of the nation.

More resources are starting to come into the atproto dev ecosystem.

“We don’t have to all fit inside the same, one-size-fits-all app,” Wang said. “The whole point of the protocol is to build many different kinds of apps, and let a lot of different kinds of user experiences flourish.”
Meet Skyseed, a VC fund and incubator backing the Bluesky and AT Protocol ecosystem | TechCrunch
In November, Peter Wang sought ideas for a new fund to support the AT Protocol ecosystem. Four weeks later, he launched Skyseed.

Do you know how much CEO pay has skyrocketed since 1978?

100%? 500%?

Try 1,085%

Meanwhile, the $7.25/hr fed. minimum wage hasn't budged in 15 years and the tipped min. wage has been $2.13/hr since 1991.

This is what I mean when I say the system is rigged.
CEO Pay Has Risen 1,085% Since 1978, But for Workers? Just 24% | Common Dreams
CEOs at top US companies saw their pay skyrocket by 1,085% since 1978, while typical worker pay only increased by 24%

before I worked at Bluesky, I worked with scholarly metadata and infrastructure.

that field has had it's chain jerked around a lot w/r/t funding and sustainability of infra: maintenance, enclosure, M&A / consolidation, enshittification, grants, collective action, etc.

not dissimilar to web!
