At this point if you’re coming out against UBI either admit you’re an idiot or that you just want to watch people suffer. It’s one or the other.

Stuffing goes great with pork chops
I’m mostly uninterested in the Thanksgiving food discourse except to say that stuffing is the best food and we should be eating it year round

Started college as an architecture major... didn't like the subjectivity of feedback on the artistic aspects of assignments.
Switched to engineering and picked which one by reading the course requirements and going "those look the most doable...
Mechanical it is then"
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

Well this explains a lot
TIL the humidity bit on the weather app indicates the amount of water the air IS holding relative to the amount of water it CAN hold at the current temperature, which is how it can say 88% humidity while my skin is melding to my bones and my eyeballs are sucking into my skull in search of moisture.

There were no female airline pilots during Duffy's "golden age" because the men in aviation medicine (and it was all men) were so stupid they thought that having a period made you crash.

But hey, female passengers wore skirts so I guess that means it was all good.
As travelers head to the airports this holiday season, the U.S. government wants them to rethink their travel checklists, their behavior — and also, their outfits. It's a part of a new campaign by Sean Duffy, the secretary of transportation, that he called “The Golden Age of Travel Starts With You.”

Medicare for All would save $450B a year.

Every dollar spent on food stamps generates $1.50-$1.80 in economic activity.

Each dollar going to low-wage workers adds $1.20 to the economy overall.

It’s not about what this country can or can’t afford.

It’s about priorities.

I do not want to “Do my own research.” I want to pay trained accredited experts to do the research, trained accredited experts to report on findings, and trained accredited experts to make policy based on them.

I am busy af with my own job, I don’t need to do eight zillion more.

Is not a bad time to point out that Australia just made it illegal to refuse remote work with out a legitimate reason. And a court has ruled that “face to face time is important to our office culture” is not legitimate. Nor is “productity is higher when everyone is on the office”.

I agree with the thread & with Courtney & also want to add one thing:

When we talk about progressive & conservative areas, we're usually looking at election results, BUT: We don't actually know that we're a a half/half nation - we know only that we're a gerrymandered & voter suppressed nation.
I agree with this thread, but I also need to add one thing:

The idea that progressives can't win in conservative areas? We need to challenge that, and after this election, we can.
The thing is that I agree with the notion that we need a broad coalition! Candidates exactly like Mamdani aren’t necessarily going to clean up everywhere! The thing is that I suspect a lot of the centrists saying that not every candidate can be Mamdani actually want NO candidates to be Mamdani

I am fully in support of "Do you have a job where taxes are taken out?" = allowed to vote.
So if the minimum age to work is 14, then you are also allowed to vote.
Otherwise, it is literally taxation without representation.
I sincerely feel the voting age should be “when they are old enough to enter a voting booth on their own and vote.”

No mail ballots for children, bc there are too many potential consequences to them if they refuse to let their parents vote for them, but a private voting booth? Let them vote.
Talking to the 5-year-old about the election tomorrow has backfired spectacularly because she asked if she gets to vote, and I explained to her that she needed to be 18, and she is now crying and vigorously arguing that you should be allowed to vote “whatever age you are”

Everyone needs to stop worrying about “disruptions” in air service and start caring about flight safety and how wrong it is to demand that people work unpaid & exhausted at one of the most stressful jobs in the world.

Politics continues to endanger ATC and it needs to stop. Now.

Nearly a month into the shutdown, pressure is mounting on air traffic controllers, who are required to work without pay.

In the 2019 shutdown, a staffing shortage of controllers led to major disruptions at airports on the East Coast — and may have hastened a funding deal to reopen the government.
Air traffic controllers helped end the last government shutdown, and may again
A shortage of air traffic controllers may have played a role in ending the last government shutdown in 2019. U.S airlines are once again bracing for possible delays in commercial aviation.

There was a 'womp' sound from the yard. I looked out the window.

Where the large pile of leaves had been, a dragon sat.

"Oi!" I called.

"The hoard was unguarded," the dragon said. "I claim it."

Every damn year. It'll leave once the leaves lose their golden hue. Meanwhile, I can't order takeaway.
