I know ridiculously obscure details about film. Some people seem to think it’s a legitimate talent. One day, maybe it will earn me a living.

people think “no ceiling” means “lets the rich keep getting richer” because it’s an idea taken from a venture capitalist by a party that has shown no stomach for reining in the worst excesses of 21st century capitalism. It’s not that people don’t know what it means. It’s that they do.
I think people are negatively reacting to the "no ceiling" part as shorthand for "let the rich get richer," though I don't think that's what's meant at all. It's an aspirational claim that *can* resonate with plenty of people. It's about opening up opportunity for everyone, which is good?

Much like Stephen Thomas Erlewine, a lot of what we take for granted about the Internet would not exist without Nathan Rabin. If the Internet paid residuals he should rightly be set up for the rest of the his life. But it doesn’t.

And it inspired one of the greatest "PINKY AND THE BRAIN" episodes ever...

"…The tragic tale of me, Brain Piccadilly, a former Arena Football player suffering from a bad case of stomach cramps, as told by my longtime friend and teammate, Meadowlark Lemon."

Speaking as a trans woman, I feel like we’re asked, more than any other group of people, to accept that our rights and identity and basic existence have two valid sides, and people can disagree in good faith about whether we’re delusional perverts.

It’s exhausting.

Nope, same old horseshit.

Even a decade ago I'd have far sooner predicted that the US would succumb to authoritarian rule than that it would become a state where vaccines were unavailable.

But if we don't throw RFK Jr. out on his ass, we're headed there fast.
RFK Jr. is overhauling the program that helps preserve Americans' access to vaccines
A Kennedy adviser said he wants to preserve the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program. The health secretary's anti-vaccine allies prefer it collapse.

The List Keepers
The AIDS crisis shattered Broadway, and the scope of the loss has never been fully accounted for. Some kept their own records.

The billionaires who own much of the the infrastructure of our 21st century lives have progressively enshittified that infrastructure while expanding their wealth, and then they scold us for being small-souled peasants who don’t believe in progress anymore.
it is amazing how so much tech gets unremittingly worse year on year at whatever you once used it for and less pleasant to use and more bound up with creepy politics as well as personal and environmental harms and yet also still less productive of actual goods and these are somehow great visionaries

This is what's so infuriating about the people who are still "blue no matter who." It is beyond clear now that the majority of the establishment Dem caucus is either staggeringly incompetent, actively wants this corruption to continue, or both. Continuing to excuse them is madness.
Just hear me out: maybe the Democratic Party’s problem is that the party leadership is full of people incapable of realizing that Matt Yglesias has terrible political instincts.

The Christian right is *really* aching to get into your bedroom. They’ve flooded the zone with pseudoscience and moral panics around porn, but their real missionary position is to control sexuality like the old Catholic Church.

As Pete Hegseth denies the cold-blooded murder of survivors on the U.S. boat attack in the Caribbean (aka war crimes), remember that this is the same guy who initially lied and said he didn't share United States attack plans with a journalist in a Signal group chat.
