This entire grift relies on convincing people that they don't know how to do the things they have always known how to do, and ironically, if it works, we will, in a very short amount of time, forget how to do all the things we have always known how to do.

From this minister's op-ed: "People wanting to experience God are more likely to meet the Divine trying to shut down the Broadview, Illinois, ICE facility than we ever were in church...God does not live in our houses of worship, but...with those who are bearing the brunt of cruelty in this moment."

I would put more money on continuing to harvest infinite energy from the sun over assuming that forcing everyone to use The Machine The Lies To You is the steady basis of an entire economy
A fun question. In 5 years time, what looks better? The US’s enormous bet & capex on AI? Or China’s equally enormous bet and capex on renewables?
China has made cheap, clean energy available in huge quantities. The world should take the win econ.st/4oqFszB

The world is so filled with beauty and wonder and I feel very strongly both that it should be a kinder place to live in and that it is within our power to make it as such

An incredibly telling metric. You tell me AI is the future and I'll tell you it's the Mark Sanchez of software.
These are the quarterbacks since 2010 who complete passes at roughly the rate Microsoft Excel’s AI mode accurately edits spreadsheets

my favorite robert redford story is that mike nichols considered him for dustin hoffman's part in THE GRADUATE. during their conversation nichols asked redford something like, "have you ever struck out with a girl?" and redford's response was basically, "i don't understand the question"

I saw some behind-the-scenes clips on YouTube about how this worked and I now understand why they showed almost nothing of the finished product. Woof.
whatever your thoughts about the ethics of AI and film restoration this just looks dumb as hell.

All the dire implications notwithstanding it is hilarious how evil this technology is. Billions of dollars spent on this greasy lying stupid thing that was literally built to replace people, and everyone that uses it gets weaker, lazier, dumber, and sadder for having done so. Well done all around.

Cancelling the Late Show is such poor treatment of a very funny and good man, not to mention that it’s a comedy institution. Going to a taping in 2016 was a highlight of our NYC trip.

Building detention camps is one of the most obviously evil things a government can do, and it’s depressing to see it happen so close to home.
the stories that come out of the ICE camps are going to look like the stories that come out of every camp system; rampant corruption, epidemic disease, physical and sexual abuse on a vast scale, a death rate far higher than normal, and medical abuses.

AND

AI: burning the world down, stealing content, and lying. We don’t have to settle for this.
This was just posted by @tbretc.bsky.social on another platform. The Chicago Sun-Times obviously gets ChatGPT to write a ‘summer reads’ feature almost entirely made up of real authors but completely fake books. What are we coming to?
