It's not a bad idea to go to the local Walmart or big box retailer and buy lots of consumables now. From toothpaste to soap, anything you can find storage space for, buy before they have to replenish inventory.

Regardless of political affiliation, always follow the money. CPB/INS used to just turn people around or at them on the next flight out. Now, people with misfilled paperwork get sent to detention centers instead. That's not normal, by any standard.
The reason that the US is locking up tourists for weeks in hellish detention centers rather than letting them book tickets back home is because the detention centers are owned by corporations. They are charging the taxpayers fortunes to cage these people, and making bonanzas off their suffering.

Not impress how low Canada is. There's jurisdictions with a higher tax profile that are doing better at eliminating poverty.
