Look, I know we're all sick of hearing "if this had happened with any other president ..." but it's absolutely true and absolutely can't be forgotten.

Ultimately, I hope this makes people consider what "mass deportation" actually looks like in practice. Folks need to see how arbitrary being "documented" is and how integrated immigrants are in our communities, and how painfully their absence is felt when they're forced into hiding.
I have some white soccer players who were visibly bummed and talking about texting their Latino teammates or bringing them groceries. All I can say is I hope this is one of those cohort political events.

Remember those national guard troops sent to Chicago by Texas Gov Greg Abbott? They went home after sitting at a suburban training facility doing nothing for a month. Abbott's little stunt cost taxpayers at least $12M. What an abuse of power.

That the political system has been so impotent for so long on both positive and negative behaviors inoculated the American public as to the consequences of elections, and - in that way - the system was not in service to them.
