Dad's naval service defined him, but he never applied for the veteran's benefits he was entitled to. I didn't know that until after he died. I wish I could ask him why.

🌬️It's like mid-January out there!

🧣Hope everyone is bundled up. Freezing temps (mid-20s to low 30s) and bitter wind chills -- in the teens and low 20s -- across the D.C. region.

Whew. It should never have gotten this far.
BREAKING: The Supreme Court denied an attempt to challenge Obergefell v. Hodges, the case affirming marriage equality nationwide.

Our freedom to marry remains the law of the land.

Democrats in office need to know: all of us with very few exceptions want all of you with very few exception to lose your god damn jobs because you refuse to do them.

I think this is the question Democrats are gonna get over and over: if you just handed over your main demand in the end, why cause a painful shutdown at all?

Governing is more than politics, but wild to see this group of Dems arguably toss the whole party under the bus, *politically* speaking.
How do you make this your central demand for 40 days and then just let it go
Major concession from Democrats here is enhanced ACA funds aren’t extended. Preserving them was Dems’ central demand in this fight. They secured a promise of a vote (which Thune has been offering for weeks), but that could still fail. Even if it passes, Johnson has made no promise of a House vote.

This is worse than useless. Please don't vote for it, @markwarner.bsky.social and @kaine.senate.gov.

A proposal by GOP senators to send money directly to consumers’ health accounts rather than to insurance companies showed signs of breaking a stalemate on negotiations.

Tim Kaine's Senate phone number isn't taking messages. Dear @kaine.senate.gov staffer who isn't getting paid right now, please tell your boss not to make any deals for empty promises. I hate that you're not getting paid. Trading for nothing is not the answer. Thanks.

Gambling is a cancer on the sport. The next step is somebody getting killed because they didn't perform to a gambler's order.
Breaking news per Jeff Passan: “Cleveland Guardians pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz have been indicted by prosecutors in Brooklyn on a host of charges related to a scheme to rig bets on pitches thrown in MLB games. Ortiz was arrested in Boston earlier today. Clase is not currently in custody”

A running theme throughout the Bible—Hebrew and Christian—is "Don't fall into the trap of thinking you're *better* than your neighbor just because you're *better off* than your neighbor." It's incredible how universal that error is, and how universally ignored the corrective tends to be.

Important to note, important to remember.
So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

Anyway, AI doesn’t have any value for me in anything I do. I understand this says something about *what* I do. But also? It’s only practically existed for maybe 18 months. I loved and worked almost 45 years without it so yeah, I’m cool.
