it is almost Christmas which means it’s Muppet Christmas Carol season and that, in turn, means it is time to revisit this delightful interview with Michael Caine, who loves everything about that movie even more than you do
Michael Caine Loves 'The Muppet Christmas Carol' as Much as You Do
God bless us, every one! But especially Michael Caine.

I do love that a year that began with Trump asking Canada if they wanted to be the fifty-first state ends with their Canadian cable gay hockey romance show pulling us along the floor like Ilya’s chair and we don’t want it to end—and it got tax-payer arts funding to boot.

The first time I got drunk after the smoking ban it felt super weird to be horribly hungover but not smell like the bottom of an ashtray. It was like some fundamental part of the hangover experience was missing. An improvement!
this is a good reminder of how things that are shitty but have been accepted as normal and inevitable can actually turn out to be abnormal and evitable with some science, time, education and political will

gandalf, wincing slightly, sighing pissedly, rubbing the bridge of his nose: "tom is.. extremely high"

Watching Before Midnight with my husband in a theatre full of other couples, and noticing how each couple would laugh out loud at different bits of the movie--little gripes, familiar bickering--because each of us saw ourselves there, in that movie couple that now had a history, a life together
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

💀

(You couldn't pay me to watch that shit)
This is apropos of absolutely nothing but I have been thinking about best-of-quarter-century stuff and I still say that Free Solo, a documentary about climbing, is one of the five or at worst ten best horror movies of these 25 years.
