Kidney function trajectories before and after hospitalization for HFrEF by Drs. Kobayashi, Girerd et al.

In HFrEF, kidney function decline may precede a HF events by up to one year. Monitoring eGFR slopes may allow early detection of patients at risk.

Today at #WTC2025:

A patient with type 1 diabetes underwent transplantation of genetically modified allogeneic islet cells with no immunosuppression. The results of this study support the concept of immune evasion by these modified cells. Read the Brief Report: nej.md/3TXVgwp

One big outcome is the change in GFR slope. Tirzepatide slowed GFR decline by 3.54ml/min at 36 months which is absolutely fantastic! I imagine this has something to do with the reduction in mortality given how much mortality is caused by kidney disease in diabetics.

In 15 patients with primary aldosteronism, baxdrostat (a second-generation, nonimidazole aldosterone synthase inhibitor) resolved or reduced the severity of hypertension, excessive aldosterone production, and hypokalemia. Full SPARK study results: nej.md/40Js1kz

I'm sure the "taking vitamin D couldn't hurt" crowd will have an explanation forthcoming

Fascism is now in the algorithms, the neural pathways, the social interactions. How did we fail to see all this? “We wanted to see Trump in terms of his absences, so that our way of seeing the world would go unchallenged,” Timothy Snyder writes.
What Does It Mean That Donald Trump Is a Fascist?
Trump takes the tools of dictators and adapts them for the Internet. We should expect him to try to cling to power until death, and create a cult of January 6th martyrs.
