It's so fucking grandpa coded but it's true. Tech isn't evil ontologically, but all the structures and incentives of capital that are scaffolded around it absolutely are, and it is good for the soul to build space in your life away from it
I feel this. It's no coincidence that gardening was something I enjoyed this year. Fewer devices, less tracking, more care. Paper books, friends IRL, walking, tea, perfume, cinema, gigs...

This is my biggest issue. Having been in tech for a decade the way that people have collapsed the two is honestly extremeley dangerous and shows the need for education on the issue.

there are, and have been, legitimate procedural and machine learning techs: they handle the work internally in a program/system, and aren't necessarily reliant on the mega-data infrastructures that genAI is infamous for, but slimeballs took up "AI" to lump it together to finesse billions away
