Tyranny
The teenager told officers he was a U.S. citizen, but an officer broke the car’s driver’s side window and detained him. In a video, the boy can be heard telling an officer that he is a citizen, to which the officer replies, “Get out of the car” and “I don’t care.”

Starting the Ken Burns American Revolution doc, and going to track my thoughts here. I remember little of this era from AP US History, and mostly focused on the Black loyalists during the class on this for my Master's in US History, so I'm excited to learn.

read this thread and then read @swordsjew.bsky.social's Wild Faith. i say this as a (relatively) well-adjusted homeschool kid.
7-odd years of researching homeschooling, I have a special needs child who may require homeschooling, and these are facts:

1) homeschooling does not on its own harm children's learning or growth.
2) homeschooling has a massive accountability problem in almost every state
3) homeschooled kids are --

Here is something we could do: what if we stopped being fucking weird about autism
We can laugh about how stupid this is, but at the end of the day, a not-insignificant number of parents will believe the CDC and refuse to vaccinate. And some of their children will die because of it.

An interesting article on the possible early 20th-c. origins of Wicca, but let me tell you, I AM HERE for any 'British-German noblewoman and occultist [named] Lady Walburga Paget'.

Even better, her pseudonym was 'Ermengilda'. Because of course it was.

Lots of folks captioning aurora photos like "for a few minutes we didn't think about politics"

guess I'm built different, every time I'm out trying to see night sky stuff I frequently think about how much light pollution is entirely preventable with just a tiny bit of regulation

Dan knows more about how Congress works than anyone I know, so this is an interesting thread.
Some thoughts on the CR/minibus.

1 The Dems negotiating with Rs were not freelancing. They coordinated with Sen Schumer. A few were ready to give in on day one, others worked to maximize appropriations wins.

Those voting for the 'deal' are the ones furthest away from electoral consequences.

Furthermore public transit teaches you how to live with temporary minor annoyances and cars teach you that you're god's most special baby and your moment-to-moment comfort is the only important thing in the world

i think if you ride public transit enough you learn that most weird behavior is not dangerous, and conversely i think driving a car teaches you that everyone is trying to kill you at all times

Back when I was infiltrating early Nazi Telegram, I very quickly came to the conclusion that it is outright DANGEROUS to cultivate on-background relationships with Nazis as sources.

Because I encountered too many researchers who were clearly compromised as a result of that sort of contact.
Yesterday Fresh Air did an interview with Robert Draper, who has covered Charlie Kirk. And this section on Draper's relationship with Kirk said a lot to me about modern access journalism, and the soft coverage we've seen in the wake of Kirk's death.

Charlie Kirk’s last words were “gang violence”. he was claiming Black people were inherently violent right before his life was ended by another white man.

Here is a description of Kirk’s terrorism by one of his many victims:
