Lots of folks captioning aurora photos like "for a few minutes we didn't think about politics"

guess I'm built different, every time I'm out trying to see night sky stuff I frequently think about how much light pollution is entirely preventable with just a tiny bit of regulation

Dan knows more about how Congress works than anyone I know, so this is an interesting thread.
Some thoughts on the CR/minibus.

1 The Dems negotiating with Rs were not freelancing. They coordinated with Sen Schumer. A few were ready to give in on day one, others worked to maximize appropriations wins.

Those voting for the 'deal' are the ones furthest away from electoral consequences.

Furthermore public transit teaches you how to live with temporary minor annoyances and cars teach you that you're god's most special baby and your moment-to-moment comfort is the only important thing in the world

i think if you ride public transit enough you learn that most weird behavior is not dangerous, and conversely i think driving a car teaches you that everyone is trying to kill you at all times

Back when I was infiltrating early Nazi Telegram, I very quickly came to the conclusion that it is outright DANGEROUS to cultivate on-background relationships with Nazis as sources.

Because I encountered too many researchers who were clearly compromised as a result of that sort of contact.
Yesterday Fresh Air did an interview with Robert Draper, who has covered Charlie Kirk. And this section on Draper's relationship with Kirk said a lot to me about modern access journalism, and the soft coverage we've seen in the wake of Kirk's death.

Wondering where we are in the learning our lessons cycle: are Dems going to learn from Starmer and Carney winning historic victories and immediately shitting their pants, or are we going to get our own pants shit moment in 2028

i found this article to be a concise summary and full of good links to other reading.
"When the President called Portland, OR war ravaged, those in the reality-based community considered it a joke. Not a funny joke, since it was the pretext for invasion by the federal government. & not an unfamiliar joke, since local plutocrats have been promoting a similar ... story for years now."

Was asked ‘why conspiracy?’.
I explained what some misguided people *think* it is, then what it *actually* is.
‘Sounds like you’re talking about two completely different things.’
Sigh. Indeed, it does.

In general: Somebody who's replying to me saying stuff like this, please go read a book or two by a trans man. It'll help, I promise. I love Thomas Page McBee. Even Elliot Page's memoir is a place to start.

And: PLEASE, watch Disclosure on Netflix. Read Susan Stryker's Transgender History ...

Charlie Kirk’s shooter was a 22 year old white cis man & 4chan groyper.

Charlie Kirk’s last words were “gang violence”. he was claiming Black people were inherently violent right before his life was ended by another white man.

Here is a description of Kirk’s terrorism by one of his many victims:

-I scheduled at CVS a minute clinic, not the regular pharmacy, but NP said as of last night the pharmacies have opened up appts too.
-If you looked before and things were booked, check again--NP said some stores are adding roving nurses to keep up

please boost this method of content warning! i was able to look at a spider by choice instead of jumpscaring my phone out the window! thank you!
I snagged a spiderweb in the forest and did a little Irene Cara dance, shook off my hat and coat. When I looped back around, I came upon the neighbor I had disturbed. Delivered my admiration and sincere apologies

(I labeled this bc not everyone loves a spider)
