I have always wanted to be skilled at visual art, especially painting. I had a lot of fun with the little bit of art I got in elementary and middle school. So I’m working on developing those skills.

I chose watercolor because they’re cheap, nontoxic, and easy access.

1. It's shutdown day, and anti-trans provisions are on the line... either today, or in a few more weeks if a clean continuing resolution passes.

Trump posted a video this morning blaming a shutdown on trans people and immigrants.

Here is your shutdown guide.

By the way, since writing this, things have generally improved for me. I got on the right medication and nonfiction is back in my life. Fiction is a little more touch and go, but I can watch a whole movie now.

I will go to the mat for people who can’t.

Reskeeting for my few English friends who maybe have not seen this but GIN AND TONIC JELLY

GIN AND TONIC

IN JELLY FORM

WIGGLY G&T
#RecipeOfTheDay is Gin and Tonic Jelly! Back in the 90s, I made a few jellies of this sort, and I suddenly felt like a revisit might be in order. I’ve said this before, but remind you again that leaf gelatine is a much better setting agent than powdered gelatine www.nigella.com/recipes/gin-...
Gin and Tonic Jelly
This is so far from being the sort of jelly you'd expect at a children's party as can be imagined! The white currant decoration may be unavailable, but what matters is the drink-made-dessert itself! ...

"Bail reform does not allow people to evade responsibility for their crimes or walk free despite posing a risk to their communities ... These reforms simply seek to end the risk that someone who is legally presumed innocent can be jailed simply because they are too poor to pay money bail."
Cash bail systems do nothing to prevent crime — but do benefit wealthier people, as they are “able to post bail and go home, while the average person is often unable to afford money bonds and must remain in jail until the case is resolved.” Trump himself has benefitted from cashless bail in NYC.

"Despite federal investigations and a growing awareness of the industry's adverse consequences on patient health ... regulations for dental service organizations are scant, and attempts to regulate them have largely failed."
In the last decade, private equity firms have been quietly taking control of dental care from behind the scenes, largely through secondary business organizations that push dental practices to cut costs and, in some cases, encourage unnecessary and irreversible dental procedures.

In 2024, the dental industry witnessed 161 private equity deals — the highest number of any health care industry.

In the past when I sat down to write about Israel, I’ve had a moment where I take a deep breath and accept that, as a Jewish woman, it’s going to be difficult. This time, there was no such moment.

I wrote about the intentional starvation of Gaza by Israel/US, and the moral imperative to say enough:
Gaza is starving
Palestinians seeking food are being killed by the IDF. It's time for the entire world to say enough.
