It was called the Gilded Age because it was a thin veneer of gold. Fake. Riches and wealth for a few.

This is another gilded age.

*raises hand

Because we've let the press consolidate in the hands of right wing billionaires with a vested interest in the hollowing out of informed consensus and real journalism, replaced by shallow ad-based controversy infotainment designed largely to disorient, distract, and coddle power?
How come we've left it to Teen Vogue and Rolling Stone to bring all the real heat lately, while the OpEd pages of the NYT and WaPo and half the regulars in pubs like The Atlantic have gone so far as to practically join the bad guys?
When a single billionaire can accumulate more money in 10 seconds than their employees make in one year, while workers struggle to meet the basic cost of rent and medicine, then yes, every billionaire really is a policy failure.

Certain people who constantly whine about “DEI hires” and merit just hired Pete Hegseth to be Secretary of Defense. The hypocrisy would be laughable if this selection weren’t so dangerous.

Hint to Dems: "they are going to kill you" counts as a kitchen table issue to voters
if any Democrats besides AOC want to weigh in about the misrule that's already been prevalent over this first week that'd be pretty cool

The same people having a temper tantrum over DEI just confirmed the least qualified Secretary of Defense in US history because Trump liked him on TV.

Current audiobook: The Power by Naomi Alderman. Stumbled upon it with incredibly fortunate timing - or perhaps unfortunate for the people around me. 😏 Might as well indulge in the fantasy for a bit.

I still think people are nuts to be fighting about campaign message when voters keep telling us over and over they didn’t hear campaign messages.

I know I’m old school. But a President, a Secretary of Defense, and an Attorney General all credibly accused of sexual abuse just felt like bad writing.

- require you to register an account to apply
- ask for your resume to be uploaded and then ask you to fill in the info anyways

Can’t say enough about how much I love and respect the work our city clerk’s office has put into completely transforming voting access in Ann Arbor over the last few cycles. Enabled by pro-voting state propositions, and executed on an impressive scale.

This definitely deserves to be my first shared meme on this platform.

It’s almost exactly my response to a coworker who had awkwardly “joked” that he was sad when I (the only woman) hadn’t wished the rest of the team a happy IMD the other day. 😏
