Abolish ICE straight to The Hague (yeah, yeah, I know), but the community response to their attempted "shows of force", in multiple cities, is genuinely giving me a glimmer of hope in all this.
1) legendary energy

2) you don't want to be passive aggressively chased through winter conditions by a Minnesotan, I hope they have nightmares 😂

I think NBC should try to get an interview with the President just so they can covertly send Chris Hansen to conduct it.

The World Bank’s latest data shows a quiet global triumph: 93% of people aged 15 to 24 can now read and write. In many regions youth literacy has reached or neared universal levels, marking one of the most successful, least reported stories in development. buff.ly/vnsUhLo

This right here is the heart of what's wrong with American Christianity. Growing up, I heard far more talks at church about chastity and sexual purity than anything about loving one another and helping the poor. Jesus was far more interested in helping others than in keeping himself pure.

This administration is full of sadists who *want* people to suffer, and they're trying to force everyone else to act like them 🤬
The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email

there are going to be a lot of stories in the next couple weeks about the generosity of ordinary people in helping their fellow Americans and all of them will be wonderful and none of them should be necessary

we don’t have to have a government this cruel and capricious

Over 71 million Americans are paid less than a living wage, and are forced into social safety nets like SNAP.

If you think too many people are receiving SNAP benefits, don’t shame them.

Shame their employers paying them poverty wages and forcing taxpayers to subsidize the rest.

I have been shouting this to anyone who will listen for months now. Generative AI is making it up Every. Time. you use it! There are no consistent facts it knows, only probable patterns
Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

Maybe they could put up a gate at the entrance to this "mega camp" with a nice, inspiring slogan, something like "Work makes you free"....
Surely no one has done something like that before 🙃🫠
Utah has just approved a 1,300-person “mega camp” for homeless individuals,This camp lacks transportation, features locked units, and even imposes forced labor.

They refer to this facility as “work-conditioned housing,” but we simply call it what it is: modern-day internment.

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

This video of ordinary people bullying ICE out of their neighborhood makes my heart sing ♥️
The energy we need is this suburban dad standing out in the street -- barefoot with Blackhawks pajama pants on -- screaming at the masked goons to get the fuck out of their neighborhood.
More from the scene
