Ralph Abraham, CDC’s new deputy director:

- halted Louisiana’s mass vaccination campaign

- promoted discredited treatments like ivermectin

- delayed deadly whooping cough outbreak warnings

- backed anti-fluoride policies

- fought to repeal ACA

He should not be making national health decisions!

All it would have taken is one doc (of the 90+!! who saw her) to say "Fuck it, I'm saving this woman's life. Come after me Ken. I dare you." But no one did.

Yes, we can publicly criticize that too.

Indeed, the 4th Circuit will be deciding another preemption case (Bryant v. Stein) soon, which challenges North Carolina's medication abortion laws. We argue that the preemption arguments in this case are stronger & the case may come out differently. jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...
State Mifepristone Regulation Following GenBioPro v Raynes
This Viewpoint discusses the GenBioPro v Raynes decision and what it could mean for other cases challenging medication abortion restrictions on preemption grounds.

There are fewer than 10 clinics where people who need these abortions can get them—and no it's not only people with tragic diagnoses. Restrictions on care, sexual assault, late recognition of pregnancy can all lead to someone traveling to another state for a third trimester abortion.
NEW: Dr. Warren Hern has closed the Boulder Abortion Clinic after 50 years. It was one of the relatively few options for third-trimester abortions, and has been a longtime target of anti-abortion demonstrators and violent threats

The clinic is one of the relatively few to perform third-trimester abortions. Colorado is one of nine states without a limit on how far into pregnancy doctors can perform an abortion.

Trump has cut the NIH budget by more than half in defiance of Congressionally mandated appropriations for the agency. No comparison historically, not even the Great Recession. This is clearly not legal and Congress needs to address it.

PSA:

Counseling people that abortion is an option is NOT “promoting abortion.”

It’s called “informed consent.”
This is required under medical ethics.

Withholding abortion as a health care option for pregnant people is like withholding chemotherapy as an option for people with cancer.

What people think media literacy is: Yelling at 60 Minutes for “withholding” 8 month old footage of American bombs in Gaza

What media literacy actually is: Reading carefully and understanding that “footage shot by CBS News in May” means 60 Minutes is reusing old footage from a different tv program
