Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

Bari Weiss just sent this Christmas Eve email to the CBS News staff about "building trust," which includes her tripling down on spiking the CECOT piece "to make sure it's comprehensive and fair."

One CBS staffer tells me: "She really has no idea how insulting she comes across."

Brilliant from @adamserwer.bsky.social: the Roberts Court's attack on the Reconstruction Amendments are "consistent with the Antebellum Constitution’s narrow definition of who “We the People” are."

Here are some legal historians exploring the Antebellum Const.

i've said it many times before - mobility is one of my favorite books. i LOVED it.
This gift season buy books! For example! Mobility is about oil & human frailty! It has scenic locations & a polarizing protagonist loved ones can argue about! bookshop.org/p/books/mobi....

Fentanyl is fentanyl. It’s a molecule. The illicit form, which is the same molecule as the medical form, comes in a different physical state (solid rather than liquid) making it even less of a threat/concern to anyone who isn’t using illicit drugs. It’s one of the most studied compounds in existence
The official white house statement specifies "illicit fentanyl" as being a WMD.

They don't clearly state what distinguishes it from licit fentanyl, which is presumably what his staffers were given.

a chicago cop shot his mistress (also a cop!) in the back after she threatened to tell his girlfriend that he was cheating. after shooting her he did...nothing. he didn't call an ambulance. he didn't administer aid. cpd is saying it was an "accident" and he hasn't been charged.
‘Where is justice for Krystal?’ Mom of cop asks after suing Chicago Police Department, partner who shot her
The lawsuit filed by Officer Krystal Rivera's family says Officer Carlos Baker failed to call for an ambulance after he shot her in the back during a chase and then engaged in a “cover-up.”

i know we won't, but we have got to understand that a keystone of the republican project is to both categorize whole classes of people as criminal to justify locking them up, or to make them so broken and desperate that lawbreaking is all but certain to happen.

So? The incumbent GOP sheriff had contracted with ICE. His Dem challenger promised to end the contract.

Now he wants other swing-state Dems to look at his victory as a lesson:
