Coupled with a fair degree of advanced imagining too.
"Advanced imaging" are the important words here.

Why is it that right wing politicians chosen means of communicating their care and concern for the ‘white British working class’ is to demonise the minority ‘other’ who they set up as being responsible for their benighted lot, rather than to spend money helping them?

Never change Bluesky.
I don't believe so because Emu was likely not made from the kind of heat proof material that oven gloves need to be made from.

This is well said.
Perhaps the real ‘two tier justice’ is that the foot soldiers who do the racist tweets get jail time, whilst the lieutenants in journalism who write the racist articles and the colonels as editors who spew out the incendiary headlines, and generals who own the papers, just get lots of money.

Maybe all this IS a distraction…from plans to invade Greenland, have you thought of that?

Piloted?
Ron Turcotte, a champion jockey who made racing history when he piloted the great Secretariat to resounding victories in all three Triple Crown races in 1973, died on Friday. He was 84.
Ron Turcotte, Who Rode Secretariat to the Triple Crown, Dies at 84
With Turcotte in the saddle, Secretariat powered to victory in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness in 1973 and then demolished the competition in the Belmont Stakes.

It is really excellent, thanks for sharing.
One of the best pieces I’ve read in ages about where we are now. Does that brilliant and impossibly difficult thing of articulating core truths that you know and have even shouted across tables at people but reframing them so you see them with a different clarity & can redefine your own argument.

Immigrants are our doctors, porters, lawyers, plumbers and shopkeepers. They drive our buses, collect our bins, build our homes and heal our wounds. They’re our friends, neighbours and relatives. Our brothers and sisters. Leave them alone, you evil, racist bastards.

I grew up as a person of colour in Kent, surrounded by people who were v.keen to express views to me that would now make them Reform voters. "Your sort shouldn't be here", "F**k off back to P*kiland". Things of that nature.

But its always the poor far right voters who are the victims, isnt it?
It's got to the stage where if 'you don't know anyone whose voting for Reform' you need to broaden your social circle.

Or, perhaps, reflect on what it is about your behaviour that means your friends don't feel able to be open with you about politics.

As a nature lover (is anyone *not*?), I can abhor the senseless destruction of priceless natural habitats nationwide and worldwide, while still finding the stasis described in this excellent thread to be utterly infuriating and ridiculous.
On Thursday night, we heard that government was making big concessions on its planning bill, putting lots more controls on its nature recovery plans.

I find this disappointing. And to explain why, I have to tell a story I’ve been holding off from sharing.

In the latest post on our Substack I try to make sense of the mutual incomprehension between teachers & students about the role of AI.

Is it OK for students to use AI to write their assignments if that's the most efficient thing to do?

If not, why not?
