I hope people read and react to this idea: what if climate policy focused on flooding the planet with cheap, or free, solar panels? Globalize China and India's panel factories, buying panels by the boatload and just offloading them at every wharf on earth

This is the important work of a city council and municipal government. It's rarely headline-grabbing, but making neighbourhoods safer, block by block, is what it's all about. Ashley is one of the best in North America at understanding this, and making needed change happen in Edmonton.
Creating safe and livable streets is one of the most consistent concerns I hear from community members across Ward Métis. It crosses generations and neighbourhood boundaries. Everyone should be able to move around their neighbourhood with confidence. #yeg #WardMétis

Snapped this advert for colon cancer screening at a recent GP appt. Very well done @cancersociety.bsky.social! I have a faulty gene that causes cancer so I'm well-screened already, but embarrassment can put people off getting screened for colon cancer. Tests like these are key for #CancerPrevention

I don’t think people should have to share their personal stories to get elected officials to do the right thing, but I am open about my experience because I think it’s not widely understood how bikes are mobility aids. Here’s my letter to council about the mayor’s motion to stop bike lane progress.

Amazing 30 percent increase yr over yr for bikes this morning at #PedalPollSondoVelo with @velocanadabikes.bsky.social annual mobility count!

Am I the only one who finds it slightly galling that premiers are pitching major projects to an open-eared prime minister right now -- including pipelines -- as a province burns around them and people are forced to evacuate?????

As a result of wildfires which are exacerbated by climate change???

The BEING BLACK IN PUBLIC survey report is out—a powerful act of testimony, care, and visioning, released on the fifth anniversary of George Floyd’s murder. Led with such honesty, rigour, and heart by my brilliant colleague @jaypitter.bsky.social. Dig in, reflect, share.
Today marks 5 years since George Floyd was murdered in a bike lane. My practice has launched the BEING BLACK IN PUBLIC Survey Report. All findings outline challenges & positive experiences reflecting Black people’s public space insights & priorities.

Deliberate strategy. Measurable gains. Public space reclaimed for people, not pollution. Paris didn’t just hope for clean air—it redesigned for it.

Good design leads to good policy. Good policy leads to good outcomes, and justice.

Trading a car focus for a people focus is a good trade, indeed.
Air pollution has dropped significantly in #Paris in the last 15 years as a result of a deliberate strategy. Mayor @annehidalgo.bsky.social’s leadership has traded car space for green space, safe bike space, kid space.. and traded pollution for people.

Good trade.

Building a tariff-proof future means building a resilient workforce and setting the next generation up for success. The post-secondary cuts in yesterday’s budget are a devastating blow, and they will be felt in communities across the province. #onpoli #onPSE

Agreed. Beg buttons are not how to build walkable cities.
These should be for cars, not for people.

This is a crucial moment to speak up and make it clear that Prime Minister Carney must put the public good ahead of corporate profit. I just sent him and my MP a letter using 350 Canada's quick tool. Add your voice now!

Last year, Bologna adopted a 30km/h speed limit and has seen its first year without pedestrian fatalities since 1991. The change also significantly increased the number of people choosing the bike.

I used to work for charities in Canada and knew that both volunteerism and charitable work in Continental Europe at least was very different as in “less” but thinking now it’s perhaps because their collective socialist culture was “more”
Are people in other countries under constant bombardment to "donate today" or do their societies function better?

Allow me to address the elephant in the room: The decades-long outsourcing of domestic manufacturing to China was not an insidious Chinese conspiracy for dominance but the greedy strategy of the American ruling class to explode its profit margins by exploiting global inequality.

If you review the CPC platform, there is no new funding noted for next year for any of these programs below, which means they will NOT be renegotiated year over year, they will be cut after 1 year. No childcare, no pharmacare, no dentalcare.

I warned everyone. #FederalElection #Canada #cdnpoli
So only those who currently have dental, pharmacare or child care would keep the national care, anyone that does not have it set up, would not get it.

The courts have granted an injunction against the ripping out of bike lanes.

This likely means that no bike lanes will be able to be legally removed until after the courts have made a decision on whether or not eliminating the lanes violates the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
