I have found a new litmus test for people's political leanings in the US: Food safety. If folks insist that the US has the best food safety standards in the world, you can assume they're either conservative or an easy mark for conservative myths.

The Statue of Liberty being shut down feels right on the nose.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul indicated today that the state does not plan to cover the costs to keep the Statue of Liberty open during the government shutdown. Since the landmark is managed by the NPS, it is expected to close once federal funding lapses next week.

This man is a pet groomer in Iran.

I don’t know anything about this particular kitten, but there are many street cats in Iran, and Iranians often take them in — so pet groomers always have lots of customers.

Wait for the last couple of meows.

Bjo Trimble, the most famous of them all, saved the show from cancellation.
