Third Culture Kid in YYC 🇵🇭🇦🇪🇨🇦
I take photos, ride my bike, and occasionally scream into the void about things I care about. Cat mum times three. Embarrassingly stereotypical Sagittarius.
Haven’t been on here for a while. Here’s a clip of one of my fav train views of all time to make up for the absence.

(San-In Line between Hozukyō and Umahori for those curious.)

Car-centric design hurts people in small towns just like in big cities.

I saw this old lady cross this busy road on her walker because the direct trip (nursing home to Tim Horton’s) was 100 metres, versus 1 kilometre to walk up the road, cross at a light, and come back.

Town of 1,200 in Ontario.

Canada has recognized the State of Palestine 🇵🇸 a historic step away from U.S. policy.

But recognition isn’t enough. Canada must go further: sanctions, accountability, real support for peace.

CBC is covering it-- because without CBC, we’d only hear the U.S. version.

The autocratic bills made by Alberta and Ontario premiers are underming democracy in Canada

“In practice, this means that if Ottawa wants to fund housing, transit, or climate programs in Calgary or Edmonton, the province can veto the deal if it doesn’t fit their political narrative.”
Danielle Smith’s UCP - Undermining Local Democracy
Premier Danielle Smith may try to project calm when she talks about her relationship with Alberta’s big cities.

I noticed that people kept staring at me like I’m sort of alien while riding my roadie today and I’m convinced it’s because I’m wearing a long sleeve button up over my tank top and shorts instead of a jersey and bib. Reminder that bikes are also for transport!!! #yycbike

When will the global community of states (incl Canada) stand up to the State of Israel & fulfil their obligations under Article I of the Genocide Convention.
That obligation is a duty "to PREVENT and to punish" the crime of genocide.
Let's focus on PREVENTION for now.

I’m at home after a quick dinner date with hubby at our fav bar. Tried to video call my mum to show her photos from the first roll of film I shot with an old film point and shoot I took from her and my dad’s place. She answers and I can’t hear her because there’s a band playing where she’s at.

Fell off my bike. Ironically fell when I was going real slow. Front tire got caught in a small dip between a ramp and the road. Shin is swollen and bruised, hip and palm bruised, new scrape next to an old scar from my last fall.

Still a good ride though (finally a proper summer???) #yycbike

Back to stats… Gondek quotes that bike lanes account for less than one percent of the city's road surfaces...

While technically true, actual designated space (not bikeways) is only ~30km.

That’s like 0.2% of the 17,000 of vehicle lanes. 🤷‍♂️

Remember when Alison Redford resigned over $338k. Danielle Smith is being investigated for over $747 million in scandals, yet the UCP protects her. Buried audits, fired whistleblowers, and your tax dollars being redirected. When did we become so numb to this? There are steps you can take! #abpoli
