This makes total sense - similar to individuals joining a board to do good in their communities, but having no understanding of financials, or what they are liable for, or even what their true role is. The more training, the better!
In our interview, Bridgewater Mayor David Mitchell said there should be a course on what you need to know when you are elected as a councillor and a mayor. I know people get into local politics because they love their communities but there is A LOT of info you need to know, including the financials.
I wonder how many of our issues come from politicians being unable to read financial statements and unwilling to admit they are financially illiterate. It should be a mandatory 3 week course for them.
