I maintain my composure while looking at the Epstein material by imagining each man pictured therein with his nutsack nailed to the wall. Hanging upside down.

This. A million times this.
no one wants to read the truth, that Harris ran a very good campaign that substantially moved the needle in her direction but it wasn't enough to overcome a hostile environments driven by factors outside her or anyone's control
OPINION by @zeeshanaleem.bsky.social:

“That the DNC is mothballing whatever audit it could bring itself to conduct underscores that the party remains petrified of its own reflection.”

Authoritarian scapegoating.
At the HHS announcement yesterday announcing proposed rules to ban GAC, they said trans people are "at the root of the evils we face" and are "a hatred for nature as God designed it and for life as it was meant to be lived.”

Just in case you thought it was about concerns for proper healthcare.

I keep saying this but no one is connecting the dots. The war is to satisfy legal preconditions for mass removal *domestically* of Latinos (i.e., suddenly a lot of people are going to be “Venezuelan” for purposes of removal). This is 100% Stephen Miller…oil claim is to make grandpa go along
There is no national security logic that would impel the US to want to do regime change in Venezuela. It's simply not that important. I'm not even sure wag the dog is the right metaphor for what's happening here. Seems like an insane misallocation of US national security assets and attention.
Trump: "Venezuela is completely surrounded by the largest Armada ever assembled ... It will only get bigger, and the shock to them will be like nothing they have ever seen before — Until such time as they return to the USA all of the Oil, Land, and other Assets that they previously stole from us."

Once again a reminder: We can have trans rights, bodily autonomy, gender nonconformity, and freedom of expression, or we can have none of these things.

There’s no third option.

NB: When I, a professor of law, profess that an act is unlawful, I am not doing it to inform the lawbreaker, but rather to inform you, the reader.

So the question “what, like you think he cares?” is inapposite. The question is whether *you* care. I think you should, which is why I bother.

We continue to fail the children.
The House passed legislation today that would charge doctors with a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison for providing transition-related care to minors.

Rep. Sarah McBride strongly condemned the legislation in rare personal remarks ahead of the vote.

Designating fentanyl a WMD will worsen fentanyl misinformation, which does not prevent overdoses -it makes them deadlier- & harms anyone who could ever need pain treatment, anesthesia, & more. Patients already refuse one of the safest, best studied, easiest-to-dose pain meds because of such misinfo!
Trump declared fentanyl a weapon of mass destruction. What does it mean?
The declaration of fentanyl a weapon of mass destruction is the latest move by President Donald Trump casting the nation’s deadly drug crisis as a national security issue.

One way that the reaction to Rob Reiner's murder mirrors Charlie Kirk's is that the best way to eulogize each of them is to quote their words, and in both cases, doing so pisses off conservatives.
Rob Reiner: “Silence in the face of authoritarianism is complicity. Speaking out is a patriotic act. Democracy doesn’t defend itself. It requires participation, vigilance, and courage from ordinary people."

I don’t use social media to argue about politics with strangers.

I use social media to talk to people about fish.

When I talk about fish on Bluesky, people ask me questions about fish.

When I talk about fish on Twitter, people threaten to murder my family because we’re Jewish.
"Bluesky is an echo chamber."
"Bluesky doesn't have enough reach"
"Liberals must return to X to challenge the far right"

I'm not a tech bro or a journalist. Your priorities are not my priorities. Stop telling me I need to do anything other than chat about comics & telly with people who seem nice.

Happy Hanukkah to our friends who celebrate. Rachel Posner, a rabbi’s wife in Kiel, Germany, took this photograph in 1931 -- a potent reminder that fascism must be fought in every generation, even if it's wrapped in an American flag and a red hat.

I teach Sociology of Childhood, and when we talk about school shootings, my students tell me about how they also do these checks in their classes--noting locks on doors, thinking about how to escape and where to hide. I hate that they have to mind those risks while trying to learn.
Each semester I go in my classroom and I try to figure out what we would use to block the doors, if it would be safe to crawl out the windows, where we could hide if there was a mass shooter in campus. It’s such an indictment of this country how we have normalized these preventable tragedies.
