The thesis of the book is that early COVID lockdowns weren't worth it and mid-COVID mitigation measures like masks, contact tracing and business closures don't work.

This is laughably false and the authors have endorsed the people now running Trump's HHS.

This is genuinely horrifying. Fact-free far-right agitprop given accolades by credible media across the political spectrum.

I’m starting to question the legitimacy of the FIFA Peace Prize.
First-ever US airstrikes in Nigeria put the second Trump admin’s 2025 combat actions at:

—Nigeria—tonight’s strikes
—Yemen—1,000+ strikes (Mar-Apr)
—Somalia—120 strikes, 1 ground raid
—Syria—78+ strikes, 3 ground raids
—Caribbean—11 strikes
—Eastern Pacific—20 strikes
—Iran—3 strikes
—Iraq—1 strike

abolishing ICE is a necessity but *merely* abolishing ICE should be viewed as the most moderate of positions
ICE detain father shopping on Christmas Eve—then steal his family's groceries.

Then 3 agents divvy up his paid for food—taking what they want for themselves.

"Can I just get the wife's number to call and let her know?" woman asks.

"No, guess he should've complied," agent says.

They're here. The first complete US edition of Dorothy Richardson's Pilgrimage in almost 50 years. Many thanks to designer Louise Aspinall for her work in making these books beautiful. Copies will be available from @asterismbooks.bsky.social (asterismbooks.com/product/pilg...) by 1 August.

i know a lot else is going on, but US folks PLEASE call your senators - they are actively set on trying to ban trans healthcare on Medicaid entirely which trans people like me who are on Medicaid actively depend on for life-saving healthcare
The Senate reconciliation bill retains the trans healthcare Medicaid/CHIP ban.

Call your Senators, we still have a good shot at killing this provision.

Hundreds of thousands of people rely on this care.

Neurodivergence is not a disease and this is not an "epidemic." It is genetic. As such, "eliminating autism" is, by definition, eugenics. It's an actual crime against humanity and what RFK is suggesting here should only be reported as such. bsky.app/profile/bran...
Kennedy says HHS "launched a massive testing and research effort," involving "hundreds of scientists from around the world."

"By September, we will know what has caused the autism epidemic, and we'll be we'll be able to eliminate those exposures."

Science isn't known for this kind of certainty.

i honestly have never seen a political leader so thoroughly destroy their credibility so quickly and, on the other side, it is abundantly clear that if anyone can claim a genuine leadership of large parts of the democratic party, it is AOC.
Folks is it good when your own party's leadership in the House is dropping "listen to the women" and MLK quotes on you while swing state members of your caucus are talking about new leadership

a liberal doing a boycott or a leftist doing a sit in or non violent occupation of a building all get called terrorists, a conservative shooting people or running them down with their car or blowing up a building is defined as let's not talk about that too much more of them might kill people
The fundamental issue here is that a pissed off Democrat will arrange a boycott or a sit in or a protest and a pissed off Republican will load a box truck full of ammonium nitrate and nitromethane and detonate it next to the Murrah building
American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

Three years ago, three other reporters and I ID'd and called any school accused of having litter boxes for furries.

We found one (1) in the entire country: Columbine's school district.

Cat litter was for a "go bucket," in case kids were locked in during a shooting.

My YES vote is *not* an endorsement of this deeply flawed CR.

My YES vote is 💯 about refusing to shut our government down.

I refuse to punish working families and plunge millions of Americans into chaos.

I will never, ever, ever, ever, ever vote to shut our government down.

Pretty telling that the comparison here is “someone scolding you via a video you saw on Facebook that you found annoying” and “complete disregard for legal protections and long standing peaceful cooperation between nations”. It’s actually pretty accurate to how conservatives view the world
"...if American democracy can survive 10 years of Greta Thunberg scolding you guys can survive a few months of Elon Musk," VP Vance tells the Munich Security Group.
