It is futile to quote the law at foxes armed with sharp teeth.

Cisgender, but in a “malicious compliance” kind of way.

Also, fuck the Packers.

in maryland, incarcerated trans women have the choice between being housed with men (a Prison Rape Elimination Act violation) or in solitary (considered torture by the UN) and still struggle to gain access to transition healthcare or have grievances heard regarding sexual abuse
To Maryland's trans community: Our state would be incomplete without you. We will continue to defend your rights against the Trump Administration.

I'm now boycotting Aston Martin. 😎
🚨 SCOOP: Toyota and Aston Martin secretly lobbied a Conservative cabinet minister to weaken Britain’s climate policy.

We only know this because Democracy for Sale won a two-year legal fight to force the government to hand over the documents.

Victory! We’ve won major legal battle exposing car industry lobbying
After two years we can finally reveal “backdoor channels where corporate money hijacks our democracy.”

It sucks when you are obligated to point out the problem but forbidden from giving the solution.

There’s a chance that something like AI could still be useful in the future, but there are a lot of social, ethical, environmental, and technical issues that need to be fixed first.
I think AI is being pushed by a bunch of people who do not have society's best interests at heart (some even counting on a collapse), and I also think there's a bubble that's about to pop

But just like how the internet kept going after the dot com bubble, I think AI has its uses, in theory at least

Everyone has psychological weaknesses, because they have psychological needs. An LLM is an algorithm for saying things to you that seem relevant to yours. Given enough time, the LLM will find your weakness, despite not being sapient, because it does not have to be to do so.

If you press the object down at the right pressure for long enough into a sufficient quantity of malleable plasticine, eventually the plasticine will form perfectly to the shape you present to it. So it is with LLMs.

The LLM is like plasticine. Interaction with it is like an object of relatively fixed shape pressed down on it. The shape that the object presents to the plasticine, in this case, is the particular quirks and intricacies of your mind

The problem isn't that the LLM is magically persuasive. The problem is that every human being's actions are fundamentally oriented toward getting what they want and not getting things they want not to have, and the LLM refines its responses based on the data those actions generate

Man won a narrow plurality of the vote, and immediately and very predictably started plummeting, and so many people and institutions who had no real need to go that far, even on the most cynical and cowardly of self-serving rationales, decided to chain themselves to the deck of a sinking ship.
we gotta keep hammering over and over again just how fucking unpopular this guy is with every institution and every person in a position of power

people hate him and people will hate you for capitulating to him
Enten: "This is probably the worst 10 day period for the president in the polls his entire second term. The numbers are just atrocious ... when your best poll has you 14 points underwater, you know it's truly bad and it's as bad as 26 points underwater ... -43 with independents! They despise him."

Which is pretty on the nose for the group

So of course he’s against socialism
4 senior House Dems — Hakeem Jeffries, Katherine Clark, Pete Aguilar, & Ted Lieu — voted for a Republican-led resolution to “CONDEMN SOCIALISM,” a symbolic measure that passed the chamber on Wed. Sites like this one are actively hostile to socialism, and they attract and encourage people who take part in that hostility, even when capitalism is causing them immense suffering and socialism would clearly benefit them.
I have a lot of issues with the Matrix franchise, but one thing they did get right: Everyone who is dependent on the system is, in practical terms, an enemy until they are broken free of their dependence.
