Just slowing down cars has a significant impact on urban noise. Lowering vehicle speeds from 30 mph to about 20 mph drops noise levels by about 6 decibels. (And consider how many cars in urban areas are going a lot faster than 30 mph!) A lot of what makes cars loud, even EVs, is rolling noise.

Major Taylor Blvd could be an excellent economic corridor for Worcester… if it was heavily redesigned with center running bus lanes, wide bike lanes, and actual storefronts. It has the bones of a downtown artery but has been stripped dry by car centric development that needs to be overhauled.

I was looking at the paving plans for Grove St at O’Connell and Forest/Holden, why do these opt for non protected bike lanes that sandwich cyclists between the travel lane and parking? While decent, why not make them better with parking protection?

Three years ago, under the Dark Sky, I asked my followers to send me examples of relatively recent bike lanes in the French countryside. Here are 4 before/after examples I was then able to create with Streetview, to promote the idea that creating bike lanes outside cities is also a possibility.

i think rage at congestion pricing is a good example of how no one believes that the world can be positive sum anymore. like, people pay a small fee to get access to a faster commute — saving them valuable time — and the money improves public transit, saving other people valuable time. it's win-win!

Never forget, car dependency isn’t freedom.

Some might ask “what’s more free than cars?”

Choices.

Choices are more free than car dependency.

It’s not a hard concept.

I’m not pitting cars against any other single mode of transport.

I’m rejecting design that creates dependency on just one mode.

This is just one of many reasons for why we need to truly enforce the new 25 mph speed limit in Worcester. Speeding tickets can only go so far, infrastructure must enforce such speeds.
New study out by IIHS:

Definitely think it would’ve been better to update the WFS and transit to it, but will be interesting to see how it impacts transit… if people realize the ease of rail maybe Septa will get the support it deserves, at least that’s what I’m hoping (we’ll have to wait until 2032 at least tho)
