Major Taylor Blvd could be an excellent economic corridor for Worcester… if it was heavily redesigned with center running bus lanes, wide bike lanes, and actual storefronts. It has the bones of a downtown artery but has been stripped dry by car centric development that needs to be overhauled.

Question for the DTM (@steverolle.bsky.social)
I was looking at the paving plans for Grove St at O’Connell and Forest/Holden, why do these opt for non protected bike lanes that sandwich cyclists between the travel lane and parking? While decent, why not make them better with parking protection?

That is completely fair, tho rolling noise pollution will still be dominant at decent speeds. Also manhattan has the worst pollution and congestion, so it would be quite odd to single out the Bronx if I’m understanding you. Also the knock on effect may reduce car use outside the zone too tho tbd

35% to be exact, at least according to the parking reform network’s definition of downtown, this does include parking garages btw

Here’s a revised version with some functionality for the park and those biking on Salisbury St

As a WPI student, I’ve thought about this a lot and am still not sure. I’d love to see the Institute Park paths expanded for one. But regarding bike lanes it’s tricky bc of the current width of the road (44ft I think) that is assuming parking is kept. Thus I’ve landed on a shared use path for now.

And here are Streetmix cross-sections for different areas along the segment. I want this to be something that could be implemented with minimal opposition and construction, hence the subpar bike lanes at the intersection. At least the majority of the bike lanes are around 8ft.

Here is a video detailing the entire segment:

Here’s a recent GE project I’ve spent 6+ hours on the past couple days: Pleasant St Parking-Protected Bike Lane
- 0.5 mile segment from Park Ave to Newton Square
- around 170 street-parking spots
- bus stop access maintained
- no heavy construction required (solely paint and delineators/bollards)

With the support the roundabout mockup got, here’s my google earth Worcester map so far. There’s quite a lot going on here but I’ll do my best to explain the basics in the alt text. Will do more posts highlighting specific locations in the future. These are just what I see fit, feedback is welcome.

Here’s a google earth mock-up that I have (currently building out a map of improvements for Worcester)

And even tho it’ll be referred to the Public Works Committee, I’ll still be able to speak on it right?
