🧪 If this observation holds up, I think it’s the first direct signal we’ve detected of a dark matter particle (rather than indirectly inferring their existence from gravitational effects. Exciting!

I wonder if it’s consistent with what we (haven’t) seen at the LHC…

Tonight I dove into the diverging solutions for early next week. Some models bring a cold plunge fast, others delay it to late week and are warmer.
We are certain though that Thanksgiving will remain clear and chilly in the Mid-South, so that's good news!
We're not sure what next week will bring...

As a follow-up to yesterday's post about next week's uncertainty:
The Euro Ensemble's weekly temp anomaly is cutting the mid-south down the middle for above/below average temps. The ensembles are so spread it's basically outputting climatology for us.

BREAKING: This is huge news, the EU's equivalent of the 🇺🇸Supreme Court's 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges ruling.

🇪🇺Court of Justice just ruled all 🇪🇺countries must recognise same-sex marriages granted in other member states.

This effectively legalises gay marriage across 🇪🇺

All latitude bands were warmer than average over the last 6 months. This was particularly visible across the Arctic and Antarctic regions. 🔥

Plot shows zonal-mean temperature anomalies, where latitude = y-axis (not scaled by distance). GISTEMPv4 data using their 1951-1980 baseline.

Today's Excel adventure: radar graphs!
Each thin line shows a single year 1991-2020, with the oval showing the NWS climatological average, and 2025 plotted darkest on top of them all.

I've been nominated for an Emmy Award!!!
Along with Trevor Birchett and Mikayla Morris, we were nominated for our work on our one-month-later special of the early April 2025 tornado outbreak across the Mid-South.
This event was career-defining for me, and I'm proud of the work we did that week.

Long-range forecasting is notoriously difficult, but this setup is just horrendous. The spread on temperatures next week in the ensembles is over 30 degrees for some days!!

Wednesday will be interesting as a cold air mass pushes into the Mid-South.
The maximum temperature for the day will be set at midnight, with the afternoon high not cresting higher. The morning low will also not be the minimum for the day, as the colder air fully arrives with mid 30s by 11:59pm.

"Climate shock." New study shows that rising property insurance premiums caused by growing weather extremes are cascading into the real estate market. Homes in the ZIP codes most exposed to hurricanes and wildfires would sell for an average of $43,900 less than they would otherwise.

Take a look at this... Remarkable "warmth" last month across both polar regions when visualizing temperature departures by latitude. The x-axis is quite stretched out here compared to my usual monthly update of this graphic.

In ~40 minutes, I'll be chatting with @jakecarstens.bsky.social and @drkimwood.bsky.social about this year's hurricane season!

It's a bit like a forum, so we'll have some Q&A for any specific questions that don't get brought up.
