Your occasional reminder that titanium is a bad choice for jewellery that has no clasp.

You do not want to be in the ER with a swollen finger wearing a ring that is harder than any cutting tool the medics have.

My dad abhors any negative comments about immigrants. Asked him recently why he’s so strong on it: ‘Because we’re always happy to take the rich and clever ones. Which means it’s not about disliking immigrants. It’s about disliking the poor and vulnerable. And that’s a bad human instinct.’
This is so disgusting.

Conservativism: “I got mine, fuck you.”
I really do not understand at what point we forgot that this is how it works.
People are championing and enforcing these immigration policies now who are *products of this immigration ladder of excellence themselves*.
Did they never eg speak to their parents/grandparents?

I find it weird that the focus is always on reducing “illegal work” by stopping people from working, rather than finding ways to make their work legal and therefore allow the workers to be taxed and contribute to the economy.

Also, digital ID can reduce illegal work no better than paper ID can.
However, I reiterate the original and main point I made which is if Digital ID can help reduce illegal work then that is a good thing.

And it is not progressive to lose control of who is entitled to be and work here.

Today it’s transwomen, but tomorrow, it’s butch women. Androgynous gender presentation. And women who remain friends with transwomen. This doesn’t stop.

This is about policing who is performing femininity to an ever shifting standard.

If your org does this? Quit the org and say why.

Not gonna lie lads, it’s fucking bleak over here.

Trans people can’t fight this on their own, cis women need to start leaving and boycotting these organisations that exclude trans women.

I go where my trans partner goes, if she can’t go I don’t go. We all have to do this.

There's a couple reasons so many IWW songs are set to the tunes of hymns and one is that the Salvation Army Band would show up and try to stop workers organizing by playing hymns to drown out speeches, so the Wobblies came up with words so they could sing along. SA has been trash all along.
It's that giving time of year again, so this is a reminder that no matter how they try to dress it up, the Salvation Army is not a charity.

Wild promises, huh?

“They need us more than we need them.”

“We hold all the cards.”

“Easiest deal in history.”

Not to mention “£350m/week - let’s given that to the NHS.”

Let’s have some bloody accountability.

I have vague recollections of starting on Slackware and finding it a real pain before shifting to Red Hat. Struggled for some years to keep he working after any update, and finally moved over to MacOS, where things Just Worked.
28 years ago, I learned about this amazing thing called Linux.

I immediately drove down to Best Buy and bought a boxed set of Red Hat 5.0. Probably the best $50 I've ever spent!

What was your first Linux distro?

A blast from my past - the Medieval Soldier database takes nearly 300,000 military service records from 1369-1453 and makes them available as a searchable database.

As set out in this thread, the causes of the court backlog are chronic lack of funding and absurd inefficiency.

The government has made no proposals to address either. Their answer is to remove juries.

Rather than fix the leaking roof, their solution is to burn the house down.
Here is a list of reasons why some of my hearings and trials this year have been delayed and kicked off into the long grass, stuck in our record court backlog. Serious allegations which will now be tried *years* after the event. 🧵👇

This might be cosplay, but it might also be “I’m brown and don’t want to be shot by my own staff.”
“i won’t go unless i can wear my princess costume!” is something one typically hears from little girls not ruff tuff fbi directors but here we are
This FBI “pulse check” report on the dept under Patel and Bongino is a mixed bag - the fibbies love having no more sensitivity training but many hate going on ICE raids and think leadership is weak - but this anecdote is clearly gold: K$H Patel wearing the traditional FBI Director’s ladies clothes.

This time last year, I was on the South Lawn of the White House helping to lay out the AIDS Memorial Quilt.
This year the White House did nothing and the State Department instructed empoyees and grant recipients to “refrain from publicly promoting World Aids Day through any communication channels”
This morning I had the honor of helping lay out some panels of the #AIDS Memorial Quilt on the South Lawn of the White House. Seeing all these individual lives that were lost and knowing they are just a miniscule part of that great tapestry of loss is haunting.
