Did you know that if NY had kept its original gerrymander for 2024, there’s a very good chance the Dems would have kept the House, giving them leverage to stop the gutting of American state capacity and oversight? You can’t unilaterally disarm in a war, and this is a war.
Gerrymandering is bad actually

And anyone, even governors, who are proposing this are playing a dangerous game that’ll further undermine democracy and further the race to the bottom of fascism

Despite all the handwringing about “intellectual diversity” the reality is that higher ed exposes young people to a vastly different array of people and experiences than almost anything else you can do.
going to college, living in an international dorm and meeting brown kids from africa, dark-skinned kids with african features from india, spanish-speaking chinese kids from argentina, and many others changed the way i understood the world in some pretty fundamental ways

In national elections, liberals like me ask leftists to be coalition partners — hold their noses and vote for a candidate they don't love to beat someone truly terrible.

In New York, the shoe is on the other foot. And we should be clear that we're willing to do what we ask of our partners.

What Kenneth Roth and others reduce to "identity politics" is always an effort by a particular oppressed group to be afforded the rights, privileges and protections enjoyed by a society's dominant groups.

It's the very promise of liberalism, no more, no less.

If I wanted to avoid pain, I would simply avoid voting for a candidate with a history of political violence promising a revenge tour upon the country that dared reject him.
US policy uncertainty right now is off the charts -- worse than during covid, 2008 financial crisis, debt limit showdowns, after 9/11, you name it.

Unfortunately you have to primary everyone, not just because they don't have what it takes to fight, but because they don't have what it takes to rebuild. Last thing you want is them to win by default and then tread water until the next Trump comes to power
what the moment calls for is fighters instead of gormless boobs who should have retired 30 years ago. policy differences can be hashed out later, everyone can agree that Musk and Trump must be stopped and democracy restored
“Unlike the Tea Party of 2010, this is not an issue that breaks down cleanly along ideological lines. An insurgency isn’t necessarily going to pull Dems to the left, especially because Dem voters can’t really agree on which ideological direction to take their party.” split-ticket.org/2025/02/21/t...

I don’t *like* economists because they think they invented the concept of utility and therefore know everything but they have real jobs and do real work. Some of it is even good. It’s a “physics vs. engineering” type beef. MBAs are astrology for Republicans.
