this, every time Trump has been accused of a sex crime, since 2016, his reaction has been "but what about Bill Clinton?!" and somehow, every time for a decade people have rushed to scream about how they'll rip Clinton apart, and Trump disappears from the story, over and over again.
If they admitted the obvious, then fighting fascism would dictate that they need to defend Clinton here, and they don’t want to do that.
Throw the book at Clinton if there’s proof, but until then, the logical answer is that he’s innocent here and being used as a distraction from Trump’s crimes

My only quibble is with "at this point"; I'm not sure this data was ever capable of measuring amplitude (how bad are things now), and it can barely act as a measure of direction (are things getting better or worse) when people's definition of "things" are so incompatibly varied
Consumer confidence data is basically useless for markets/econ forecasting at this point. There is just no universe where periods when inflation was 5x as high, real income growth was deeply negative, or unemployment was more than 2x current were better than the current backdrop.
